I haven't ever had a "smart" phone before, and I think that I should get one. Android appeals to me more than apple, but I can't seem to find a good phone. Can someone help me out?
Have a look at the Nexus 4 coming out soon or some of the new Windows Phone devices. Both are relatively cheap.

There's no sign of a CDMA Nexus 4, and for good reason. Verizon is basically INCAPABLE of cooperating with manufacturers on software. Their Galaxy Nexus had no Google Wallet access and had firmware delays for "carrier testing", and it was so bad that Google just dropped their support and tried to pretend it never existed.
The only phone they've ever left alone was the iPhone and that's because they were desperate to stop losing customers to AT&T over not having it.

Yeah, Verizon sort of dropped the ball on this one. Not to mention 3G radio issues with bad handovers and randomly dropping signal if the signal gets bad. Got better after a few updates but it still has its issues at times.
The only thing that truly better on it (compared to the GSM one) was the fact that it has 4G, which also can be a huge battery drain due to the fact it has to keep 2G running too, and having 32 GB of storage.
So yeah, Google learned their lesson and going back to the old way of doing things.
