Okay, this is really frustrating. My backup laptop, which I use for surfing the web and email and video editing (I use my Compaq for gaming). Here's a breakdown of what's wrong with this piece of shit: -Won't accept drivers and at this time has: 1. No sound 2. No graphics 3. No usb compatibility 4. No wireless capability -Won't run Windows Update -Won't download ANY files -Won't run any executables (unless they were installed with an OS disk) -WILL allow ethernet connection to internet -WILL allow a new OS to be installed. Also, a strange partition of the Hard Drive showed up around the time it became shit it is called (DATA) and most of my memory is allocated to it. System specs on request. Thanks in advance!
Stick some putty in the back ports, should stop it taking a shit on you. If that fails slap a diaper on it. [editline]06:57PM[/editline] Anyway, trying to help now: Have you just put a new OS on it? It might not like your hardware, or have you just put a new motherboard in?

I added some help...
Anyway, trying to help now: Have you just put a new OS on it? It might not like your hardware, or have you just put a new motherboard in?
Same OS that has been on it for about 2 years. Windows XP. Nothing has changed about the computer. No new hardware and no new software. I tried thinking of the last time I installed software before this happened, but that was about 4 months beforehand.
Can you put in your XP installation disc and format/delete the other partition?
you either have a virus, or you do like many other people and leave your laptop ON and set it on your bed, which will kill it [editline]02:04PM[/editline] yeah if you can't update/download/run exe's then it is a virus [editline]02:04PM[/editline] boot into safemode with networking and run SPYBOT S&D
SPYBOT S&D
link plz? And no, I haven't tried killing the partition. I'm afraid. And also no, I don't leave my laptop on when I'm not using it, that's ridiculous.

Spybot Search and Destroy, google it.
http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/]www.google.co.uk
You, sir, are an asshole. I don't even know what S&D means, you fuck.
It's beyond fixing now. I suggest you throw it out and purchase a new one.
Spybot Search and Destroy, google it.
Thank you. [editline]02:14PM[/editline] Wait, serious flaw in this logic. If I can't download or run files, how am I supposed to use Spybot Search and Destroy?
Try to get into safe mode with networking, see if you can download there
Try to get into safe mode with networking, see if you can download there
Thanks, I'll post back when I get time to try all these suggestions.
If you have more than one vital problem with your computer, I would seriously consider reformatting.
If you have more than one vital problem with your computer, I would seriously consider reformatting.
Actually, I did a reformat on a really old desktop which took about a minute to boot up in XP. Now it boots up in roughly 10 seconds, from POST to desktop. I suggest the OP does this.
When I saw the thread title, I thought the laptop had either exploded on your lap, or suddenly a shit load of dust came out on your lap
I would try reinstalling XP, though if you can't find a disk Ubuntu will probably suit you for everything but video editing.
explain why you can't download stuff. Once my HDD had a shitload of corrupt stuff on it, including my temp folder, so i coudn't install, play or download, so i had to rename my temp folder to something else, and create a new temp folder.

Actually that's impossible for Windows altogether. 3. I agree, OP should reformat.
