High School Teacher refuses to grade essay due to it mentioning guns.
A high school English teacher has refused to grade two students' papers because they mentioned guns.
Marshall Williams and Alex Wright, seniors at Denton High School in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, said the teacher, Dewey Christian, set an assignment to write a report about anything they wanted.
Williams referenced a trip he had taken to the Fort Worth gun show, while Wright recounted a hunting trip, but both said the papers did not describe shooting guns.
'I said, "Me and my mum went to buy a gun" and as soon as he heard the word gun he told me to sit down,' Wright told My Fox Dallas-Fort Worth.
Both boys were told they would get a zero on the assignment because of the topic and were reprimanded in front of their peers, the news channel reported.

I host LAN parties with the student (Marshall), his whole facebook is currently nothing but pro-gun posts and pictures.

what a retard
That's textbook overreacting, and it fucks with a kid's high school education too! Great work, Mr. Christian.
That's like refusing to grade a biology paper on evolution because you're religious.
"write a report about anything you want"
"FUCK YOU NO GUNS YOU GET NOTHING GOOD DAY SIR"
What utter fucking bullshit.
I'm surprised this happened in Texas.

No, no it isn't.
It would only be like that you wrote a religious paper on a topic and the teacher didn't allow it because of the political quagmire around the issue.

So basically abortion.
So basically abortion.
Or LGBT rights.
I don't think we need analogies for how stupid it is when he's refusing to grade two kid's papers because they mention something he doesn't like.
That even means he had to read them to know that guns were mentioned in the first place, so he already did the hard work.
So basically abortion.
Exactly.
I'm guessing (given that this is the daily mail) that the teacher saw a paper about guns and thought "this might not be wise to have as a topic".
I also know Marshall from said LAN parties, and the first day that one of the news stations aired a segment on this, he was just swimming in all the attention it gave him.
Can't say I agree with the teacher's actions, though.

Maybe the teacher was just offended that he didn't say "My Mum and I went to buy a gun."
I thought schools were supposed to teach people.

If only, but that's not the case.
'The teacher's intent was for guns not to be trivialized in any school situation because of recent events,' a statement said.
I can see why a teacher would want to do this, but saying the word "gun" in an essay does not immediately trivialize them.
What a stupid teacher, if that would have happened to me, my parents would have raised hell with the school and school board. I hope he doesn't get away with this.

or maybe its the fact that he said mum in an american english paper
Even though all the weapons are unloaded, I hate to see them being held like that.

Finger off trigger, safe muzzle direction? Yeah me too.
Ban this guy from teaching.
My english teacher has made numerous threats over my handwriting. My AP Chem teacher has pushed me to fix it after seeing my tests and asking if I had a mental disability that made me write poorly.
Is posting Daily Mail articles bannable yet?

Had an English teacher who refused to believe the cause of my poor handwriting was my fucked fine motor skills and insisted it was just me not giving a shit.
I sense a pattern.

Uh, okay?
Maybe you do actually write abysmally?
Had an English teacher come over and see me drawing guns, and ask "so, can you give us some warning before you shoot up the school?" It was the only time I've ever called someone a fucking retard and gotten away with it.

Then it's entirely the teacher's fault for not specifying the guidelines. If there are restrictions, you list them. If you say anything goes, then fucks sake people are going to think that means anything goes.
Of course, you would condone this kind of behavior, because even though he did nothing wrong, it's okay as long as someone you don't agree with gets in trouble right?
I'm surprised this happened in Texas.
I think Texas is similar to Florida in a sense that the educated population is just as liberal as you would expect from a Californian or Illinoisan.

Well no I'm just giving the teachers reasoning.
