I chose the worst source in the world for this, because this is sensational as possible.
In a stunning attack on the speech rights and free religious exercise of U.S. soldiers, the Obama administration has released a statement confirming the unthinkable: Any soldier who professes Christianity can now be court-martialed and may face imprisonment and a dishonorable discharge from the military...even if they are a military chaplain.
The statement released to Fox News earlier today:
Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense...Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis...
This statement follows a recent meeting between Pentagon officials and fanatical anti-Christian activist Mikey Weinstein, who helped design the new punishments for Christians who commit the now-criminal offense of sharing their faith with others.
If you read the article, it's actually saying that, on a case by case basis, trying to convert people to your religion in the military can get you Court Martialed. It's just also full of attacks on obama.

Not sensationalist enough.
Well hey, you're supposed to be fighting for your country, not your religion.
Nice way of filtering the retards from the sane people though.

I bet what's actually happening is the criminalisation of discrimination against non-Christians. I've heard of some things in the US military like people not getting promotions or being treated like shit because they're not Christian
he didnt ban christiantiy, he didnt even do anything tbh. theres a law against people trying to convert and preach at other in the military. its been around for years and years and years.
In a stunning attack on the speech rights and free religious exercise of U.S. soldiers
The sensationalism barrier has been broken.
Fair enough for your average soldier, but making illegal for a preacher to preach is a bit retarded.
he's enforcing a law that was already *supposed* to exist. a former marine filed a lawsuit against the U.S military a couple years back because he was penalized and demoted for refusing to participate in a prayer.
Obongos war on religion
Good; we need more soldiers anyway, and fewer crusaders. Equality is important in all places, especially the military.

This violates basic constitutional rights. People should be free to practice any religion they want to.
You didn't read the article, did you?
So instead of outright banning religion they made it so you can't tell anybody about it.
I don't see the difference.
This violates basic constitutional rights. People should be free to practice any religion they want to.
If you had read the article you would have known this has nothing to do with practicing your religion.
This is saying that it's against the rules to attempt to convert others to your religion.
I can't see anything wrong with this.
This violates basic constitutional rights. People should be free to practice any religion they want to.
In the military you are not an individual, you are government property; anybody who has served will tell you that.
This is more or less a way to prevent conflicts from turning into religious crusades. We really don't need anybody in the military spreading religion to both their fellow soldiers or the local population.
well duh facepunch is liberal what did you expect
i am not liberal i am socialist

That doesn't allow them to strip or suppress constitutional rights. It's strange that you would defend them stripping a right you don't agree with, what will happen when they try to take away your free use of the internet?

Because I'm in a completely different situation than an enlisted soldier doing a tour of duty in one of the most unstable regions of the world. It has nothing to do with suppressing their constitutional rights; as soon as they sign those papers and repeat that oath they willingly submit themselves to such things.
They're there to complete a job, not convert the population. This is mostly to prevent an international incident across the Islamic world. Look at the Benghazi Embassy raid that took place and that wasn't even sparked by Americans.

They aren't stripping anyone rights, Jesus fuck can you even read? It seems like they are enforcing omethig that has been around for years, to stops wanted conversion/ indoctrination into a religion, and to stop forced partaking in religious ceremonies. You can still be a Christian, you can still tell people, you just can't try and convert non-believers to it unless they consent.

Literally zero constitutional rights are being stripped or suppressed here. You are not being barred from participating in religious activities, you are not being disallowed from telling people you are a member of a religious institution, you are not being penalized in any way for having personal beliefs. In fact, the complete opposite is true. Your rights are being protected and enforced by manner of making it against the military code of uniform justice to attempt persecute somebody for their religious beliefs, or lack thereof.
