When two men decided to rob a McDonald's in eastern France they hadn't expected to come face to face with a table of hungry soldiers from an elite military force. The armed men burst into the fast food outlet in the commune of Ecole-Valentin late Sunday, with one firing a warning shot while the other raided the till for cash. But amongst the around 40 diners in the burger joint were 11 members of an elite branch of the French Armed Forces -- particularly hardened soldiers who specialise in hostage situations. The off-duty soldiers waited for the end of the heist to intervene so as not to put other patrons in danger, Besancon public prosecutor Edwige Roux-Morizot said Monday. The first man, who was carrying around 2,000 euros ($2,270) cash, stumbled as he attempted to flee and was captured, while the other was shot in the abdomen by one of the elite forces and arrested.
https://sg.news.yahoo.com/french-elite-forces-down-burgers-foil-mcheist-022114150.html?nhp=1 What shitty luck
I'm guessing they had absolutely no situational awareness.
oh man oh man security footage please
Man,that was a major amount of bad luck.Welp, what matters is that they were arrested and will face justice.
oh man oh man security footage please
you'd have to wait 'til the end of the footage and it'd probably be over in seconds at that point, they pretty much waited out the hostage situation and then ambushed the idiots while they were making their exit
These guys were dumb, if you are going to resort to armed robbery at least target somewhere with more of a life changing sum of money available.
These guys were dumb, if you are going to resort to armed robbery at least target somewhere with more of a life changing sum of money available.
The less money there is the less security there is, but maybe they wanted to steal chiken wings ?
I'm guessing they had absolutely no situational awareness.
I might wager that the armed forces guys probably weren't in uniform... Would make perfect sense why these guys didn't pay any special attention to them.
oh man oh man security footage please
Most likely would be like this:
I'm guessing they had absolutely no situational awareness.
Being off duty with uniform on isn't very recommended. They were probably in civilian clothings. When you wear a military uniform you attract all kind of weirdos and idiots.

There very very few exceptions that Marine Corps makes for it is gas stops, drive through and something about recruiting. It attracts unwanted attention and makes you a target for anyone looking to cause trouble.
I'm guessing they had absolutely no situational awareness.
Ya you'd think that 11 probably completely ripped looking big guys would be a bit of a deterrent [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] Does this guy earn a Darwin award?

I dunno about the laws but they might be able to be armed unless they are in uniform.

You'll attract too much attention if you flaunt that you're military.
That is a rule of thumb any where you got, nothing about guns at all. You'll attract too much attention if you flaunt that you're military.
Certainly not here. But then again nobody here places any importance in being in the military because you have to.
That is a rule of thumb any where you got, nothing about guns at all. Wouldn't armed robbery be a very big deal in France? Like, I can't imagind big armed heists happen there often. And all at a... McDonald's? Why not somewhere with more to get? I know petty criminals aren't very forward thinking, but jeez. How would you think you wouldn't get caught?
That is a rule of thumb any where you got, nothing about guns at all. You'll attract too much attention if you flaunt that you're military.
Point is, I doubt they would be armed if they were not in uniform.
I just pictured a table of GIGN operators in three-hole balaclavas eating with their riot visors up.

aw that's unfair give them another shot :(
aw that's unfair give them another shot :(
He already got one in the abdomen.
The other perpetrator was shot by one of the soldiers, so hard to imagine them being armed when not on uniform.
Being off duty with uniform on isn't very recommended. They were probably in civilian clothings. When you wear a military uniform you attract all kind of weirdos and idiots.
Here conscripts are expected to wear uniforms when on leave. However professional military personnel aren't, unless they're not on leave and just stopping by during free time. I don't know how it works in France, and the article doesn't tell much details. It's entirely possible that they were uniformed, as well as them not being.
If this had happened in the UK, would our armed forces have been allowed to use firearms in this instance?

Using a firearm anywhere in France at this moment in time would be risky imo.
I might wager that the armed forces guys probably weren't in uniform...
I'm guessing they had absolutely no situational awareness.
Well they are robbing a McDonald's.
