Federal investigators bought a Detroit barbershop, hired a barber and opened for business, all as part of an undercover sting operation.
Exclusive video shows dangerous men selling dangerous weapons at the barbershop. Stolen hand guns, machine guns, sawed-off shot guns and even hand grenades were among the weapons. The criminals do not seem to care that the guns will be used in violent crimes that kill kids and parents. They just want the cash.
It's no secret Detroit has a serious violent crime problem. In 2012, 386 people were murdered in the city, of which 80 percent of the victims were shot to death. Most were under the age of 30. Add 1,200 non-fatal shootings and it becomes beyond obvious that gun violence is out of control.

"We set up a barbershop, opened the doors up, worked four days a week for a few hours a day. At that time people who were just coming off the offered to sell us guns," said an agent.
Within days, dozens of customers started showing up at the shop, opting to skip the haircut and instead head straight into the back office with weapons to sell.
"That neighborhood typically had large-scale violent crime involving firearms," said an agent.
Most of the guns were stolen. They didn't seem to care that selling guns on the street is against the law. They were focused on the cash.
[...]
Dozens of weapons were pulled off the streets. Those who were selling them were arrested and sent to prison.
"We spend a lot of time -- our business model at ATF is patterned around identifying the most violent offenders, or trigger pullers, as we call them," said an agent.
The Local 4 Defenders cannot identify the exact location of the barbershop but can say residents in the area are seeing a difference. Dozens of the men they feared most now are locked up.
Illegal gun sales are wrong but that guy in the second pic is really committed to his job.
Damn, I want pants just like that.
Yeah I'd like a number 1911 please, trim the sideburns

" ...selling guns on the street is against the law."
no it isn't

yeah lets pretend waco didn't happen
This is a pretty hairy situation.
I live about 1.5 hours from Detroit and I can definitely say this does not surprise me. The city is at rock bottom, no one pays their city taxes yet still expects public services.

the people running waco weren't wacko?
I feel like Detroit should be cordoned off and banished to another dimension.

Selling stolen against is against the law everywhere.
I feel like Detroit should be cordoned off and banished to another dimension.
we could wall it off and turn it into a max security prison

Its called learning from your mistakes and moving on. No one is pretending that waco didnt happen.
It's about time the ATF did something about those illegal weapon weapon trades with the Boron. I hear they were planning on attacking some Yaki in the Senators Badlands.
"What, a gun? No no no, officer, I was selling the barber a specialty hair dryer. It just looks that way because it's from Sweden."
snip dogg
Not every city has barbers of that caliber.
i wonder how many people want to get weapons ju illegally just because its so much easier and cheaper, talking about just gun enthusiasts
No enthusiast would because enthusiasts aren't criminals. It's not easier either, you'd almost certainly have to be a criminal to know the people you'd need to know.
Also, is it me or is this article super-sensationalist? As far as I can tell the gun control debate has kinda died down so I'm not really sure what the article is trying to do here, except maybe offer a story of success to counter losing that M16 out of their truck.
I have a question.
This is Detroit, right? Why did they buy the Barber shop? Aren't there 60,000 abandoned buildings for the taking?

You can't just take an abandoned building. Plus, after you go through the trouble of getting it(Takes months), you need to turn it into a barber shop, and make sure it's up to par with health codes.

Criminals have no regard towards public safety or abiding by laws? I never would have guessed.

Let's be real here, who would honestly think some random barbershop was selling illegal firearms like that?

Not anymore. It's a shame, really. When I was younger I remember going to my grandma and grandpa's house(Redford) and having a good time, but now it's all crime and gangs. Going down to see a Tiger's or Red Wing's game has changed, too. None of the street lights work, building after building with boarded up windows, and trash all over the city. It makes me mad seeing a lot of these people complaining that their city is being run down, etc, but they're not doing anything to help it(Not saying you, of course, just those I see on the news).

yea i doubt an enthusiast is going to buy stolen/illegal guns. if police catch wind then you would lose your entire collection. i could see an enthusiast doing it for very specific models that can't be otherwise acquired, but that's pretty situational.

It's a shame because everyone's lower their standards. I went on a trip for two weeks and became depressed when I cam back because it's so dull being here. My neighborhood is alright since everyone grew up together but evem then it's bad
