• iMac survives fire, despite being partially melted.
In what should be used by Apple as a testament to the solid construction of their computers, a Swedish man, Anders Norman, suffered a tragedy last Wednesday when his house burned down. To Norman's surprise, his iMac survived the conflagration despite being burned and partially melted. Norman's experience (translated from Swedish) follows: "Unfortunately, the whole house and all things in there completely destroyed, so even the iMac. What's funny is that it is still in operation. While damaged from smoke and dust and partially melted, but yet, however in operation. After I plugged in the burned power cord and wiped off the worst dust from the screen I pressed the melted start button. Imagine my surprise when the startup sound sings from the speakers! The screen turns on and the machine connects to the wireless network. The mouse works flawlessly and the scroll wheel as well. Firefox starts and I take up the article from the local magazine about the fire ... Fantastic! On Friday I bought a new iMac at the Apple Store here in Umeå, which I now rejoice." To see just how bad the damage was, take a look at this second photograph by Anders Norman that was shown on the Feber.se website:
Source: http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/15/swedes-imac-takes-a-burnin-and-its-still-turnin/ that's pretty amazing.
Too bad apple won't replace it because of smoke damage.
only the case is damaged not the internal parts. I bet they would replace the case if possible. [editline]02:00PM[/editline] plus the scroll ball on the Mighty Mouse actually works but yet the one I had barely worked even though it was new. wtf is up with that?
I think the least of my worries when my HOUSE burns down is if my computer is okay GOD DAMNIT MY CHILDHOOD WAS IN THERE! all those pictures i never got around to scanning i need to go buy a scanner

I'd be pretty pissed if my computer broke (all the data that could be lost with it). Pretty neat story.
Macs only work better when broke.
Reminds me of when my tv fell on my n64.
Sadly, my iPod did not share this quality of construction. It literally exploded.
how did it explode? also the original iPod/iPod Photo were able to stop a bullet.
how did it explode? also the original iPod/iPod Color were able to stop a bullet.
The mighty power of color? WTF? Or do you mean like the GameBoy color?
Well, build quality's one good thing about Macs, that's for sure.
The mighty power of color? WTF? Or do you mean like the GameBoy color?
I meant the original iPod an the iPod Photo.
Looks like it's been used by a smoker for the past 6 years.
"Keyboard and mouse burned and some dirt on the casing, so I'll buy a new iMac"
Both of my nanos did not survive the washing machine. This was after trying to turn them on after three days of drying out in the airing cupboard. £230 down the drain :smith:
My fourth gen iPod is nearly indestructible. Ditto with my G5. It suffered from TWO leaking LCUs and it still works.
If that were a PC, it would have put out the Fire and saved the house. /EndPCFanboi
At school they give us all Macbooks, and this kid's Macbook got struck by lightning. I have no idea how. It didn't survive though.
