Japan or south korea for 8-6 weeks - General

It depends on which language you know/ plan to study. Both are extremely useful to know. Japan has a bigger pop-culture scene, a much larger club scene, and huge discography of music. They also have one of the strictest governments around. South Korea is much more nerdy, huge gamer scene there. Japan use to have the more amazing arcades, but lately Korea has been trumping that one. Korea is almost much more conservative in their laws, and from what I've read, they are much less racist against Americans.

I suggest Japan.

From the pictures you posted south korea looks nicer. Also I'd say SK would probably be less touristy that japan so keep that in mind.

Why not do both? They're literally right beside each other.

go to Disneyland sea in tokyo its fun, also if you go in the summer prepare to be fucking humid as shit.

I say South Korea. It looks much less crowded and just a better place to visit.
