My friend is getting rid of his old Dell soon and is planning on building his own PC. He mostly plays Source games, but he also wants to play Starcraft 2. He also wants it to be as future-proof as it can be for the price. A Quad-core CPU and 4GB ram are required! Depending on the price, he may use XP until he gets Win7 64 Home Premium OEM; not that big a deal Below is a list of parts I threw together, but it is not final. I figured I'd post a thread here to see if I can get anything better for the money, especially the video card.
So a 4870, then?
Yes. [editline]23rd October 2010[/editline] 4870 > 5750 by several frames
I'm updating the build soon with the 4870, but out of curiosity, are there any NVIDIA alternatives at the same price range with similar performance?
Sadly no, except the GTX 460 which is above the HD 4870 in terms of performance
Ah, okay. Thanks.
Let me try a quick build.

I mean he just wants to play Source games and Starcraft. Heck, if you want I can put a $500 with Windows 7 that will meet your friend's requirements.
