• Should I buy Ableton?

I've been using FL 10 for the last few months, I feel I'm getting nowhere with it, but I've heard great things about Ableton, apparently Thomas Bangalter from Daft punk uses it? So it must be somewhat good. But here's the problem, I've kind of been gathering lods emone for a PC build, would I regret purchasing Ableton? I'm really looking to become a popular and successful producer, and FL is just not for me.
its a big big difference from FL 10, and alot of producers can get confused by it so i would reccomend 'trying' it before you decide to purchase it. Though there are a LOT of famous producers that use FL so if you can't get the right sounds in fl i doubt you'll get them in ableton since you'll basically be using the same vsts
Daft Punk has been known to use FL Studio to some extent. Don't try to follow in their footsteps. A new DAW won't revolutionize anything
There's a 30 day demo for Ableton Live in their website
I would say to cubase, haven't tried it though, but I know some people who changed from Ableton to Cubase.
A different DAW won't suddenly make you a better producer/musician. Why exactly do you feel you're not getting anywhere with FL? I'd hold back on buying Ableton until you have an actual answer to that question, else it would just be a waste of money imo.
I have tried out Ableton before, thought it was much easier to use and made it sound much better. I'd just like to see if I can do any better with a different program, hell I might love it.
I don't really support piracy but you could pirate ableton and if its the right programme for you and you feel comfortable using it, I would buy it. I saw another poster said there is a 30 day demo but sometimes they're pretty limited demos but I'm not sure if thats the case here. But whats the problem with Fruity Loops? Have you just gone into it and tried to figure it out or have you used tutorials?
I use FL studio i have used ableton I can not figure it out at all... I am still pretty young and don't know a large amount about producing still but ableton to me was too confusing I also have heard that from many other people. Plus Bobie is right, they work with basically the same Vsts and from what i saw I liked the sounds on FL better than on ableton, the defaults that is.

Simply put, Ableton, FL Studio, Reason and Cubase etc all do the same thing, the only difference is the layout... Changing DAW's isnt going to magically turn your boring, repetitive tracks into pure gold, they'll be exactly the same. It's up to you to compose a song, not the DAW. Try out a few DAW's and see what you like more but if you've been using FL studio for a while I'd suggest you stick with it, you can only get better at it.
I had been using FL for two years when I switched over to Ableton and I do not regret it at all. I learned it really fast as well since there's loads of great tutorials. [editline]26th October 2011[/editline] The main reason I switched over to Ableton though was so I could do shit like this.
Yeah, I also hope to get a launchpad too
You have to try it. Different DAWs work for different people and it is all a matter of what works best for you. The main difference between DAWs is workflow. Just because some artists likes a DAW doesn't mean you will.
Just like the above posted, try some stuff out and see what feels right for you, dont go by what other people use, say or do.
Used FL for years, hated it. Discovered Ableton & Reason, never going back to it again.
Still you can tweak stuff live in ableton, which gives you the ability to "jam" or whatever with synths and effects. Something you can't do in Fruity Loops.
Except that, you know, you can.
What he means is you can have an arrangement and deviate from that, but while the song is playing you can seamlessly go back to the arrangement.
I wish I had money to get Ableton. I was starting to finally get my grasp on the program, but the 30 days ran up. Now whenever I have an idea, all i can do is play in the super limiting iMaschine, since I don't have any other software :v: But thats not a diss on iMaschine. I love it for what it is. Im able to just play around with thought anywhere, so I don't completely lose all my ideas.

Reaper isn't free, but from what I've heard it just bugs you to buy it after the trial.

Even just playing with a friends FL Studio, I really didnt like the workflow compared to ableton.
Yeah this is so counter intuitive for me, I dont know how to do anything.
