AMD's mission with Mantle is successful, this is exactly what they wanted to achieve.

Imagine, the RTS power of dota 2 custom games (coming up) combined with the running costs of half life 2 (almost everything with a graphics chip can run it). Wow. This is big stuff. Big money, too.
This is simply outstanding.
“Until the GPU manufacturers get their act together and make GPUs ten times faster than we have now, we can't max out the CPU,” he said. As Valve's John McDonald said, "We're asking you to juggle chainsaws, but in exchange, we'll give you peak performance."
A fresh wind is blowing and I like it.
Source 2, on the least visible game to see it...
Source 2, on the least visible game to see it...
Its just Dota 2 ported to Source 2 for performance benefits. All assets and I'm assuming rendering are the same (I hope that they let us improve the shadow quality so they're not awful). I'm sure that Valve will show off the graphics side of Source 2 sometime with a new game or techdemo.
It looks like the PC is slowly entering it's own next gen era. It only differs from consoles in the way that the leap is astronomical comparatively.

It doesn't mean that PC's have not been stronger for many years in every regard, but now that raw strength will actually be seen on PCs.
