CNN affiliate KHOU reported a man walked into the terminal with a military-style semi-automatic rifle and fired two shots into the ceiling. When he was confronted by an air marshal, the man pulled out another gun and shot himself, the station said, citing witnesses in the terminal.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/02/us/texas-houston-airport-shooting/?hpt=hp_t2 No civilians harmed. Gunman killed by his own weapon.
That's odd

The weapon identification thing isn't really that bad in this one guys. It just notes the firearm used as a broad type. It didn't even use the whole assault-weapon buzzword.

Makes me think of all the kids on Gmod calling the BlackHawk Blackcock. Or at least it always sounded like that.
I'm just speculating here, but perhaps the dude realized he's not emotionally capable of shooting the place up like he planned to, and took the easy(?) way out?
ten words into the damn thing [editline]2nd May 2013[/editline] why make such a huge deal out of it? come ONNN
Because it's CNN/mainstream media.
military-style
the gun must have had a camo skin on it

This image is really outdated, those captions need to be replaced with "Bushmaster military tactical assault weapon".
This image is really outdated, those captions need to be replaced with "Bushmaster military tactical assault weapon".
No, use "machine gun"
ten words into the damn thing [editline]2nd May 2013[/editline] why make such a huge deal out of it? come ONNN
What's wrong with the term? It's a physical description.

Nah, they'd call an RPG a MISSILE LAUNCHER
military-style semi-automatic rifle
this is misleading it was a kalashnimaster aks-15u, the smaller variant of the famous copper killer bushnikov ar-47 FUKCING cnn get ur facts straigth GOD
What's wrong with the term? It's a physical description.
It's a buzzword to promote fear of AR-15 devil guns. Note how the other gun he pulled out to shoot himself with isn't described as anything other than "a gun"

Almost, now just needs a nerf gun labelled "Rocket Launcher".
It's a buzzword to promote fear of AR-15 devil guns. Note how the other gun he pulled out to shoot himself with isn't described as anything other than "a gun"
But the article didn't promote fear at all. It just described the gun he used from an aesthetic point of view. Would you feel better if he said a semi-automatic hunting rifle?
Probably something about a kid in an elementary school making a gun out of paper too.
Almost, now just needs a nerf gun labelled "Rocket Launcher".
Fixed. [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline]
Probably something about a kid in an elementary school making a gun out of paper too.
Hey man that is the school administration's fault, not incompetent I mean above average journalism.
But the article didn't promote fear at all. It just described the gun he used from an aesthetic point of view. Would you feel better if he said a semi-automatic hunting rifle?
"local track team fires a real pistol at meets" "local track team fires a real blued-steel double-action colt king cobra 6" high-polished bright mirror finished stainless .357 magnum at meets" I don't know about you but if I read the latter I wouldn't think, 'hmm yep sure glad they gave a good description of the gun! I am now better because of it'
Now you're exaggerating, all they said was military-style (as opposed to not military style) and semi-automatic (as opposed to bolt action or automatic). If arms manufacturers are allowed to make, advertise, and sell guns based on the fact that they look similar to the real deal, then the evil liberal media is allowed to describe them as such. The article mentions someone who worked at McDonalds, why can't it just be someone who works in the terminal? McDonalds has less to do with this story than the type of gun used. I bet it's CNN trying to promote fear over how unhealthy their food is.
Every single one of these threads turns into "lol silly media getting guns' names wrong".
"local track team fires a real pistol at meets" "local track team fires a real blued-steel double-action colt king cobra 6" high-polished bright mirror finished stainless .357 magnum at meets" I don't know about you but if I read the latter I wouldn't think, 'hmm yep sure glad they gave a good description of the gun!
what are you talking about it's a military style semi-automatic rifle there is literally nothing wrong with this description
What about it makes it "military style"?
