Bit stupid imo to cancel it five days before the deadline. I've seen it happen lots of times for Kickstarter campaigns to all of a sudden make the remaining budget towards the end of the month.
They had nothing to lose by keeping it up, and now, on top of it definitely not being funded, they will have to live with the fact of not knowing whether something may have happened to fund it. I'd end up regretting it if I was in their shoes.
Perhaps they realized their goal amount wasn't enough even
It was a unique idea that sounded great and it's something that's not really been done before, but i think there were a few things they did wrong with their Kickstarter. It would probably of been fully funded if they included rewards for backers from the start (instead of adding them half way through and only for a certain tier), lowered the tier costs, showed some more videos of the gameplay and had stretch goals from the start. It seemed like they only started thinking about some of those things half way through their Kickstarter campaign.

You're just assuming it wouldn't of been enough when you don't even know the specifics of what they needed to do.
Shame, if I knew about it I probably would of backed it.
It reminds me of the Starwars 2: battlefront ship fights but better
Don't most kickstarters make a shitload of their money in the last two days anyhow?
So what happens to all the money they got donated?

No money is taken until the time of successful completion, so nothing needs to happen.

I believe the money is only taken from your account if the campaign is fully funded. So nothing really, it never went anywhere.
I'd just throw up what I have on green light and make it early access

I think kickstarter games might be fizzling out anyway, human resources isn't even close to making its goal.
