Are Android smartphones too complicated for the average person? Microsoft's chief executive Steve Ballmer said users would have to be a "computer scientist"to work the new Android phones.“You don’t need to be a computer scientist to use a Windows phone and you do to use an Android phone," he told an audience at Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco Tuesday.
Hot sweaty sauce CEO of Talking out of your Ass much?
"I used the android for 5 seconds and didn't understand it and thats how I decided to say this"
He's an idiot if he thinks Android is too complicated.
Computer illiterate executives who think they know things.
To be fair the average person isn't that smart when it comes to technology. I see people struggling to do the basic things with iOS, Andriod, WebOS, etc too. With android being so open and OEMs just doing what ever the fuck they please it draws this complication from a lack of consistency. Note that he says "Average person" not "tech savvy people" like the people above my post. Of course it's exaggerated but what do you expect from a CEO of any company?
He's an old man now, old people still have trouble sending emails. Why do you think they're dumb-ing down windows with each new version.

All of them have varying thoughts on Android phones but I've yet to hear somebody call them complicated.

he's exaggerating a lot with the statement, but androids are more complicated than iPhones or Windows phones
My tech-illiterate mother can operate her Android phone just fine.
It is extremely fucking simple. You get apps off of the marketplace or web and drag icons.
I gotta agree with him, I've given all 3 types of OS's to my mom and iOS was the easiest for her to use, webOS was the second easiest and similar to iOS, and she had a really difficult time with android. That doesn't mean she can't learn it, but it's definitely more complicated than the other two. I can also say this for certainty because I have an android phone, and it really feels like a more complex system compared to my iPad here
He is confusing "complicated" with "powerful", "expansive" and "customizable", You know everything WP7 and iOS aren't.
No, Android isn't too complicated, you are too stupid or ignorant to figure it out. Android fans like the huge range of extra features and options it provides. Don't ask for our phones to be dumbed down to suit you, if you want simple go buy an iPhone. brb gonna flash new prerooted 605 ROM with AOSP/CM7 apps on my DX. :eng101:
That's one of the worst thought processes I've seen in a while. Completely disregarding the customers needs and wants is a one way ticket to a failed product.
That's one of the worst thought processes I've seen in a while. Completely disregarding the customers needs and wants is a one way ticket to a failed product.
Yeah, Android is failing so badly, isn't it.
He is confusing "complicated" with "powerful", "expansive" and "customizable", You know everything WP7 and iOS aren't.
You're confusing "average person" with someone like yourself who knows who to use the phone to its full potential, who knows how to expand its capabilities, and who knows how to customize it to their liking.
I didn't say that. Android obviously has a team dedicated to making it simple to use. However, say it didn't and you had to do everything from a command line, sure it can still do everything it did before, but then it just becomes annoying and terrible to use, and telling people to learn it or leave it is not a solution.
He is confusing "complicated" with "powerful", "expansive" and "customizable", You know everything WP7 and iOS aren't.
Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone wants or needs something "powerful", "expansive" and "customizable"?
He's an old man now, old people still have trouble sending emails. Why do you think they're dumb-ing down windows with each new version.
I know a >50 year old guy who's best best developer I've ever seen.
I asked my mother for an Android for my birthday, she gave me an iPhone and said I wouldn't know how to use an Android. :smith:
I asked my mother for an Android for my birthday, she gave me an iPhone and said I wouldn't know how to use an Android. :smith:
Trade it in and get an android phone?
That's really strange. Sounds like he's trying to dumb down things more than they need to be. Everyone I know that has gotten hold of an Android system LOVES it. Even the most tech illiterate people that I know that has an Android system on their phone, still wouldn't switch it for an iPhone. I'm really astounded when I hear such things, especially from Ballmer, but on the other hand, I kind of half expected it too.
He's an idiot if he thinks Android is too complicated.
Flip phones can be even more complicated IMHO.

I hate this new age idea that technology should be accessible to even the dumbest of idiots. It dumbs tech down and makes it harder for innovation.
First I was thinking, why is Ballmer even saying this? Then I remembered, oh wait, Windows 7 Phone sort of exists.
Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone wants or needs something "powerful", "expansive" and "customizable"?
No
