Comedian Rob Riggle is probably best known for his work as a Daily Show correspondent through 2008, as well as his various film and TV cameos (21 Jump Street, The Other Guys, NTSF:SD:SUV). And now he's playing lead for the upcoming video game adaptation Dead Rising: Watchtower.
Riggle will play photojournalist and oddball-weapon-creation-enthusiast Frank West, who was the main character in Capcom's original Dead Rising film. The movie (...) will not play in theaters and instead debut on Sony's Crackle service (...)
In addition to performer, Riggle was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He's served in Liberia, Kosovoa, and Afghanistan. He also went to Iraq in 2007 to file field segments for The Daily Show as well as entertain troops for USO. So for those who know Dead Rising already, let's just make the joke together: he's covered wars, you know.

He's kinda got the look. Though in that picture its more Frank West circa Off the Record.
omg my expectations for this movie just went up tenfold
He's served in Liberia
Coincidence?
So uh...who's playing Adam?
He's covered wars, you know?
are they going for a comedy, then?

I certainly hope so, if it isn't, it's just going to be generic zombie movie.
Oh my God I didnt even know this was a thing

i'm actually kind of stunned by this. it just seems so...on the nose. i was fully expecting generic rugged guy frank, but instead they got a comedic actor that has literally covered wars as a journalist. dude looks less like a generic protagonist than frank west himself does. i'm interested
So are there more details on this? It looks like they're going for a film version of the first game.
So getting a guy who actually covered wars to play Frank West. The irony is not lost on me.
Still though, this gives me some optimism for the film.
So its going to be straight to VoD trash?

Dead Rising has always been a dark comedy with seriousness thrown in, 1 being the most balanced imo.
Kind of what sets it so a part from other zombie games.

You can put a shower handle in the head of a zombie and their blood will rain out in front of them, you can throw a bowling ball along the ground hitting zombies, you can put horsemasks on zombies heads making them unable to bite or see where they're going, you can freely dress up in kids or womens clothes, if you don't have any weapon equipped and you press the fire button while aiming you can spit at zombies.
Dead Rising is definitely a comedic game
POW
Fuck yes, Rob Riggle is a fucking legend.
Listen to me, Capcom. Just listen for a second. No, put down the copy of World War Z you're reading.
Listen. Don't make this a serious movie. Don't even try. You've got Rob Fuckin' Riggle as your lead, don't even bother trying to make it serious.
I don't think they would dare to make it serious
The only videogame-to-film movie that I ever liked was silent hill. Not because of the story, which was... not something I wanna talk about. I really liked the art department there. If nothing else, the Art department really captured silent hill's atmosphere. It's a shame they didn't have better writers, but I think videogame movies are doomed to have poor plots since they're trying to cram the story of a several hour game into an hour and a half
He's defiantly got the look. I just hope he doesn't play the same character he does in every other movie he is in.

If they go for the casual ridiculous from the games (Aka, fighting off a horde of zombies with a stuffed teddie bear, wearing a dress and a football helmet, acting as if all is normal) I'll see this movie in a fucking heartbeat :v:
First we had Need for Speed which surprisingly ended up being a good movie, now we have Rob Riggle playing Frank West in a Dead Rising film which actually looks like it's staying true to the original. I like where all this is going.
I don't think dead rising is a comedic game, i mean i think it's a hilarious game absolutely, however it's tones range from seriously dark and creepy to absolutely ridiculous. I feel that the storyline from the first one was taken pretty seriously by the characters, but then you have all the hilarious elements and over the top bosses and stuff which come in in regards to gameplay.
I think it would need a delicate balance of a fairly serious plot but with a lot of comedy and humour to balance it out. An even mix of both. Either way i'm looking forward to it.
fantastic
Will we get Melissa McCarthy as Jo?
What about Jason Jones?
