Hi, ill keep this short. Recently bought a new computer (custom built it). This problem has nothing to do with specs. What happens is that my hard disk running windows will often go up to 100% usage and the response time will go up to ~5000ms from simple things like switching tabs in my browser, opening a folder, moving windows around and basically pretty much doing anything causes it. At that point even my mouse will start to lag on the desktop and often freeze entirely. After a while of not doing anything it'll "calm the fuck down" and start acting normal again, until i start doing things again. I should also mention, after restarting it'll sometimes completely stop happening and will run just fine, but then after some usage (ie playing a game) it will suddenly start again, making games unplayable and the system unusable. Naturally i assumed this could be caused by 2 things. The HDD, or an obscure windows error. So i reinstalled windows on my main hdd, and for a while it seemed to be fine but then it started again. So i backed up my main hdd and took it out, installed windows on my second hdd. Again it seemed to be fine for a while. But now its doing it again. Does anyone know what component could be causing this? http://imgur.com/Frx0kkQ Specs: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=Dw1YjyKL
Whoa! That's a heck of a lot of hdd usage...try running HD Tune, and let it scan for errors
you can use Resource Monitor in Task Manager to view which processes cause high disk activity
you can use Resource Monitor in Task Manager to view which processes cause high disk activity
I dont think its a process thats causing it. Over the course of my testing it i reinstalled windows about 3 times, once with a complete reformat. So if it were some faulty program it would have been removed. The program said the HDD was fine but i didnt believe it. Then after trying my second HDD (that i know for sure works fine), and having the same problem, I came to the conclusion that its not an HDD problem at all.
Before running any sector scans or error checks on the HDD, back your important stuff up because they can upset a dodgy drive. It's happened to me before, even to the point of it not even showing in BIOS.
