Isn't this old news?
Pre-ordering to get hats and skins and more otherwise useless extras for a game is fine, but an entire difficulty mode? Bollocks. It's like saying "hey, the only way to increase replay value for this game is to pre-order". Sure, it makes sense that it'll be hardcore fans pre-ordering, but what about those who aren't hardcore fans yet?
Isn't this old news?
It may be; though, I only heard about it yesterday.
Before everyone goes apeshit like usual, RANGER MODE WAS DLC FOR 2033 TOO. Carry on.
Pre-ordering costs more than the game and dlc when released in my country anyway.
Hey guys lets make the difficulty mode that makes Metro ten times better and more immersive a pre-order bonus! For a game that only has a single player component! What? No of course it won't make piracy skyrocket, don't be silly.
Before everyone goes apeshit like usual, RANGER MODE WAS DLC FOR 2033 TOO. Carry on.
Really? I got it in a HumbleBundle and it had Ranger mode in it
Before everyone goes apeshit like usual, RANGER MODE WAS DLC FOR 2033 TOO. Carry on.
Didn't have to pay for it though, unless you played on the Xbox, but then it was more about Xbox Live.
Before everyone goes apeshit like usual, RANGER MODE WAS DLC FOR 2033 TOO. Carry on.
Yeah but far from day one and it was free. This is purely to get you to pre-order, but it will probably (hopefully) backfire, at least on PC.
Yeah but far from day one and it was free. This is purely to get you to pre-order, but it will probably (hopefully) backfire, at least on PC.
No, it was not free, it was paid on xbox 360, and much, much later released for free for PC.
Yeah but far from day one and it was free. This is purely to get you to pre-order, but it will probably (hopefully) backfire, at least on PC.
It was only free on PC. [editline]17:35[/editline] Gorramn Riller.
It was only free on PC. [editline]17:35[/editline] Gorramn Riller.
It's okay, dude. Have a winner for not being a stupid shit who complains about the fact that Last Light is being released the exact same way that everyone was fine with in 2033.
I knew I was definitely going to get this game, so I pre-ordered it for the discount two days ago. On top of that, I don't have to pay for the "DLC" later, so I saved more along the lines of $10. It's a shame that they market it as "the way the game is meant to be played," but I'm not going to complain for the deal I got out of it personally.
Dumb incentive. It's not going to turn me off from getting the game, but including a season pass for upcoming story DLC would've been far better.
Dumb incentive. A season pass still would've been better.
Before everyone goes apeshit like usual, RANGER MODE WAS DLC FOR 2033 TOO. Carry on.
There it was a nice afterthought idea. Then they saw how much players liked it because it reinforced the strengths of the game. So now they put it in from the beginning, only to later cut "the way the game was meant to be played" to sell it as a preorder incentive. Context is important. I mean it makes sense from a business standpoint when trying to market your preorder boni to the largest possible audience. A different looking gun will be appreciated by most types. The AK was one of the better guns in Metro, so that and free money will be appreciated by people looking for an easier game. But hardcore types that are looking for the exact opposite would be turned off by all these extras, so the devs/publisher needed a good counter-weight.
wasn't there an article about how retail forced deep silver to do this?
It's okay, dude. Have a winner for not being a stupid shit who complains about the fact that Last Light is being released the exact same way that everyone was fine with in 2033.
It becomes closer to a dick move when it's advertised as "the real game experience" however.
Yes, it says that in the article.
then why are people still bitching about this? lol
It becomes closer to a dick move when it's advertised as "the real game experience" however.
Any dickmoveness to it gets nullified when it's a forced thing done by the retailers, not the developer nor the publisher.
Any dickmoveness to it gets nullified when it's a forced thing done by the retailers, not the developer nor the publisher.
Well I'm not saying I'm mad at the developer or publisher specifically, I'm just discontent with how it turned out this way, no matter who is responsible for the dicking.
then why are people still bitching about this? lol
Because reading the article is for nerds.
Because reading the article is for nerds.
It's like the 3rd thread on this same exact subject, I didn't expect much difference. But I went and read it now.
Practically a year late, good job PCGamesN.
Practically a year late, good job PCGamesN.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Any time!
then why are people still bitching about this? lol
Because they weren't forced to choose Ranger Mode specifically. They needed a retailer preorder incentive, and chose the worst thing possible to turn into that incentive. Zoom out and look at this from the consumer's perspective: a difficulty mode is behind a paywall.
Them having the balls to advertise it as the way it was meant to be played is painful. And what? The bonus gun and bullets and e-book wasn't enough of a pre order incentive?
