President Donald Trump on Friday proclaimed May 1 as 'Loyalty Day' as a way to "recognize and reaffirm our allegiance to the principles" upon which America was built and express pride in those ideals, according to a release of the proclamation from the White House. “The United States stands as the world's leader in upholding the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice. Together, and with these fundamental concepts enshrined in our Constitution, our Nation perseveres in the face of those who would seek to harm it," the proclamation reads. ... Trump called on Americans to observe this day with ceremonies in schools and other public places, including reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. He also called upon all government officials to display the flag of the United States on all government buildings and grounds on May 1.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/04/28/trump-proclaims-may-1-as-loyalty-day.html
That's creepy as shit
He's got some stones uttering those lies about reaffirming the ideals this country was built on, when he's ruling like a tyrant.
kinda north koreaey
Don't really need another day when we have July 1st but I guess it doesn't really hurt Besides we already have 365 days of FREEDOM, I'm all for one more :terrists:
Loyalty Day has existed for nearly a hundred years and has been recognized as a holiday for nearly 60 years. It's odd that I've never actually heard of it until today.
But May 1st is already international workers day - not the day for loyalty to the USA
“The United States stands as the world's leader in upholding the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice. Most of Europe is much, much better when it comes to freedom, equality and justice.

This Loyalty Day, I call upon all the people of the United States to join in support of this national observance, whether by displaying the flag of the United States or pledging allegiance to the Republic for which it stands.
It doesn't make it less fuckfreaky to know it's happened every year when its origins are revealed.
The holiday was first observed in 1921, during the First Red Scare.[2] It was originally called "Americanization Day,"[3] and it was intended to replace the May 1 ("May Day") celebration of the International Workers' Day,[citation needed] which commemorates the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago.[4] During the Second Red Scare, it was recognized by the U.S. Congress on April 27, 1955,[5] and made an official reoccurring holiday on July 18, 1958 (Public Law 85-529).
I had never heard about this annual day before, but fuck if it doesn't sound scarily nationalistic coming out of El Naranja Grande's mouth.
Oh man, I can imagine the protests bring real good.
Every day is Loyalty day for a true red blooded american patriot. [editline]29th April 2017[/editline]
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2016, as Loyalty Day. This Loyalty Day, I call upon all the people of the United States to join in support of this national observance, whether by displaying the flag of the United States or pledging allegiance to the Republic for which it stands. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fortieth. BARACK OBAMA
https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2016/04/27/presidential-proclamation-loyalty-day-2016 Wow that Obama is such a spooky nationalist! This happens every year.
I always thought the whole "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America" thing that kids drone out in school was more than a little creepy to be honest. (read it in a bored / brainwashed kid's voice)
Most of Europe is much, much better when it comes to freedom, equality and justice.
I mean, this may have had some merit if the man exhibited support for any of those things
But May 1st is already international workers day - not the day for loyalty to the USA
That's exactly why it's on that day.
Trump called on Americans to observe this day with ceremonies in schools and other public places, including reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. He also called upon all government officials to display the flag of the United States on all government buildings and grounds on May 1.
Not finding this the least bit despicable. 100% for this, go Trump!
I always thought the whole "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America" thing that kids drone out in school was more than a little creepy to be honest. (read it in a bored / brainwashed kid's voice)
The weird insistence of reciting the pledge in American culture is fucking creepy tbh. It doesn't at all reek of weird cult-like behaviour, no sir, not at all. If you actually give a fuck about your country (for whatever reason), you shouldn't need to reaffirm just how much you like your country by reciting the same thing every day. It's borderline brainwashing to "force" kids to do it. If a kid doesn't take part when everybody else is, what's the possibility that kid will be treated differently for not being a "patriot"? Kids are fucking brutal to each other when they want to be.

taking advice from putin again I see... cas may day is solidly a russian/soviet/dictatorship holiday now
Loyalty Day has existed for nearly a hundred years and has been recognized as a holiday for nearly 60 years. It's odd that I've never actually heard of it until today.
Fuck that's some awful history to the holiday too. [editline]29th April 2017[/editline]
So, this is legitimately a thing that happens every year. It doesn't make it less fuckfreaky to know it's happened every year when its origins are revealed. They originally did it to drive nationalism in the Red Scare and to push out unions, then brought it back again in the next Red Scare. [editline]29th April 2017[/editline] I've always known it was a thing even under Obama, but wow I didn't know how creepy it's history was.
Loyalty day isn't something new. It's a red scare era holiday designed to replace labor day/International Worker's Day, but luckily it got mostly forgotten about.
Red scare era? Well that's icing on the shit cake.
“The United States stands as the world's leader in upholding the ideals of freedom, equality, and justice. Together, and with these fundamental concepts enshrined in our Constitution, our Nation perseveres in the face of those who would seek to harm it," the proclamation reads.
Trump certainly knows how to speak to the nation (or has writers who do), but this comes off as really jarring in contrast with some of the anti-conservative statements he's made recently. Also this isn't a bank holiday, so what the fuck, Mr. President? Throw us a bone, will you?
taking advice from putin again I see... cas may day is solidly a russian/soviet/dictatorship holiday now
Eh? It's just labourers' day. Nobody really sees it as political
But May 1st is already international workers day - not the day for loyalty to the USA
Which makes it sooooo much more ironic of him to do
He also called upon all government officials to display the flag of the United States on all government buildings and grounds on May 1.
Don't they already do this every day of the year?
Trump certainly knows how to speak to the nation
Well at least he knows how to speak to you.
Guys, literally every president does this. I'm not sure why people are latching onto Trump making the proclamation since every president since 1958 has made basically the same proclamation.
Guys, literally every president does this. I'm not sure why people are latching onto Trump making the proclamation since every president since 1958 has made basically the same proclamation.
Because Trump said it and "Trump is bad!"

In a nation that saw a measurable increase in hate crimes against minorities as people felt emboldened to not be so politically correct anymore? Yeah, many people may be complaining out of ignorance and thinking that this is something Trump decided to come up with himself to make the Hitler comparisons even easier, but I did the research into it and I'm still creeped out by it coming out of President Donald "The Free Press Is Fake News, Watch Fox News And Breitbart" Trump's mouth. An annual event doesn't make it any less unsettling.
