US probes 'stray Syria air drop' from IS video, plans to review wind patterns in the future
The US defence department has said it is examining an Islamic State video appearing to show militants in control of US weapons intended for Syrian Kurdish fighters. Some 27 bundles containing small arms, ammunition and other weaponry were dropped on Monday for militias defending the town of Kobane from IS. A Pentagon spokesman said the vast majority ended up in the right hands.
Kurdish forces control most of the town but IS remains a threat, he said. Militants launched a fierce attack "on all fronts" in Kobane on Monday after two days of relative calm when the town's defenders appeared to have pushed them back. But Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm John Kirby said IS had been kept at bay by a combination of US-led air strikes and the efforts of the Kurdish forces.
The DoD added, next time they'll aim for the militants and hit the Kurds instead.
Interesting, I wonder how often this kind of thing happens and goes unreported. You would assume that in most cases the enemy wouldn't film themselves taking the weapons and put it on the internet.
Also why was the other thread about this closed down as late? It seems to have been posted at about the same time and has more discussion in it than this one. This is the one in particular http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1432613
maybe if they added bayonets and dropped the guns like lawn darts they would hit the mark better?

Also, I don't know why I was expecting a video showing a parachute bound crate floating over the wrong side of the fence with the IS fighters celebrating and the Kurds face-palming all in one shot.
And to think, all this time we've been making laser-guided munitions when we should've been working on laser-guided provisions. And they'd STILL miss. :v:
