A friend of mine is building me a PC because he owes me one. My old PC had 4GB of this real shitty generic RAM. My friend is putting in 2GB of Corsair 1066MHz RAM (Latency: 4) in. He said the Corsair RAM would operate twice as fast as the 4GB of crap generic RAM I had. Is he telling the truth? Or is he full of shit?
If even he is bullshitting me, I can still go out and buy more RAM easily.
Tell him to put in 4GB of it.
The new RAM will underclock to the speed of the other RAM.
depends on the speed of the old ram, you could have less programs open but access the data faster with 2GB 1066
I have 4GB 1066 and didnt notice a huge difference when i upgraded from two to four

QFT. The higher ram will clock down to the lower ram, rendering the speed boost null.
I'm not quite sure how it affects the timings though...
If you DO mix ram, NEVER put different ram in the same channel (different speeds etc). Put one speed in one channel, the other in the next.

I'm pretty sure system usage also scales with how much ram you have, I'm just idling with firefox open (100 tabs) and I'm using 3.78GB
