'Third-World' NYC Airport LaGuardia to Be Torn Down, Rebuilt

[QUOTE]Gov. Andrew Cuomo introduced a plan Monday to redesign and rebuild LaGuardia Airport, replacing the cramped, outdated hub that Vice President Joe Biden once said befitted "third-world" countries with a unified terminal that will have more than double the space.
"Welcome to the new LaGuardia Airport," Cuomo said. "This is what New Yorkers deserve and have deserved for a long time. And now we're going to get it."

About damn time
thank fuck, I hate flying into that place for anything even if it is just a lay over
I had a layover in LaGuardia a few months ago.
You had to go through TSA again if you have to change terminals. As well, each one was leaking when I was there.
About damn time.
LaGuardia always gave me the creeps, looked run down in all aspects and felt like an odd place to be. Glad it's getting an upgrade though.

Wow. That is a cramped fucking airport. Makes YVR look massive.

First thing they did wrong was establish it near Rikers.
My country's international airport is 5 times larger than this too.

Hm, that looks eerily similar to what I assume Logan looks like from above...
One of the worst airports in the country, this was a long time coming.
If it's too small, how is rebuilding it going to help? Are they clearing out nearby blocks to expand it?
They may as well take the time to make it sea level rise resistant now since it looks pretty damn low...

Most international flights go through JFK and Newark rather than Laguardia. Laguardia is the smallest airport in the system in terms of size.

Unlikely, they're probably looking to optimize the space the terminals take up as well as make it look less like a shit hole. The airport is set up to handle nothing but domestic flights pretty much.

Modern airports have arrivals on one deck, departures on another, and have security perimiters built in, LaGuardia doesn't have any of that, you're lucky to not have to walk up to the plane
