I thought this was talking about the random increase in video game prices for PC. I've seen multiple games that have shot up to $60 (like consoles). I know some of you may argue that the $10 isn't much, but not all of us have money flowing in from our parents and/or lame jobs.
On-topic: I love EA!
Insightful comment from an unexpected source.
EA is a way better company than shitty ones like Activision imo. They're not perfect like Valve , but they aren't total douchebags like Activision. (for exemple the vietnam expension for bad company 2 where you get so much more content than the stupid 15$ mappacks for COD)
To stay somewhat on topic , I didn't really liked battlefield heroes. Hope they don't fuck up that one.
I can’t think of anything more exploitative than gating all of your content behind having to pay someone $60. That’s a really harsh business model if you think about it objectively.

who is the general manager of EA’s free-to-play branch
As opposed to charging people 10 dollars for weapons.
Yeah.
At least EA still do free DLC, Activision expect you to pay $60 for the game and then $15 for 2-3 map packs.

Yeah.
Well, it's playable with default weapons.
Free games only: Bad idea
60$ Games only: Bad idea
We need a happy medium around 40/45$ (New release) to keep the industry alive but have games available to more people.
My opinion is just to cut off the ''Free games'', they suck hard cock anyway.
I miss when games were like 20-40 dollars.

Perfect like Valve, what a joke. Valve is far from a perfect company, just because they answer a few emails and churn out crap for TF2 every other week hardly makes them perfect, how about they start making games at a decent pace rather than this "yeah so we're going to start making games episodically because we can make them faster right?" bullshit they've seemingly abandoned.
-Awesome games
-Free dlc
-Reasonable price for all their games
What else ?

I'd rather wait a long time for a good game than a short time for a fucking pile of shit.

Valve is forgiven for their inconsistent schedule by the sheer quality of the games they put out. I can't honestly say that any Valve game I've ever played was 'bad'. There are plenty of complaints about how some of the other players in online games act, but none of that is Valve's fault.
They know how to make spectacular single-player experiences and amazing multi-player experiences. Each game they've delayed just looks better and better in every media release they do until it culminates with the release, where everyone is always blown away. If that kind of thing is caused by the delays, then I will happily accept them. I can wait for a good thing.
And speaking in terms of this pricing problem, I think Valve does great in that regard, too. All of the games they've put out lately have been $50, $45 if you pre-order (they always have a "10% off" deal if you pre-order), and the price steadily drops after that until the usual Steam sales practically give it away. The Orange Box was probably one of the greatest deals in video game history.
I really liked battlefield heroes when you could pay only for clothes, but now you can pay to get better guns, which made it less attractive for me.
I think the general problem isn't just the fact that games prices are rising its the fact we are being literally ripped off by getting charged more money for a lesser product, and less content in the games which keeps getting less i mean a game that's going to keep me playing for weeks consistently i'll gladly justify the $60 price tag but a game that barely lasts for 6 hours? fuck no.
Games companies feel they can extend the play time of a game by just adding multiplayer while that can extend a game it doesn't extend it far usually making a good multiplayer involves cutting back on the singleplayer or vice versa while it appear's too hard nowadays just to have both.
Not to mention the fact as content left out of the game to be purposefully renamed as "DLC" seems the norm to games companies when they're forgetting that DLC used to be a nice added bonus of buying the game rather than just being used to rape the consumer of even more money which with the economy being the way it is right now people can't afford to be ripped off or wasting money.
The solution is simple Value a game not on its Name value a game on what the game is actually comprised of and contains.
Interesting coming from someone who works for EA, seeing as how all of their new releases are $60. Even though he is part of the free-to-play branch.

You also forgot to mention how costs to distribute a game have dropped significantly with digital distribution. So despite many games becoming digitally distributed, we're still seeing price spikes no matter where you buy it. That's the part that always pissed me off at least.

While valve is a good company, I'd never call it (or any other for that matter, perfect). The rush job on L4D2 and then charging $50 for it was pretty bad as well as the TF2 hat and mann co. store fiasco. They may make good games with great quality, and their distribution system is very effective, but they're not like the messiah of gaming or anything.
I think the main problem with peoples relationship to prices is that they don't understand that the income rises and then the prices do to adjust itself to peoples new income. Otherwise the economy would go batshit insane and suicide.
In fact you're paying less money for a game now than in the old days. And then you have a fuckload of sales as well going on all the fucking time.
However most game developers do seem lazier nowadays not bothering to make one good game, but rather one game series with 50 mediocre/bad games in it instead. Then the price tag seems stiff, even if you get it for free.

They usually don't ONLY sell it digital so they use the digital sales that counts for lost physical sale to back up that lost physical sale. Only when they do digital, and digital only sales can we even expect them to lower their prices since there will be way less work being done in order to publish it. I agree though, hell, often you can get it cheaper physically than digitally which is retarded.
I don't get what the fuzz is all about with the prices, I've been paying 510DKK ($90) for games since I was 10.

fixed
DoW 2: Retribution was $30 on release. THQ knows where it's at.
So how come EA's game ARE $60 on Steam if $60 PC games are exploitative?
Or $70 on the Australian Steam store.
Our Economy sucks right now..Man i hope we get a bigger Cash rebut
ep1 was 20 bucks, despite being.. episode

you give valve shit for adding a hat to tf2 every week, what about activision rolling out a new call of duty every week?

and a solid 4-hour story with an incredibly updated version of the source engine
newsflash: episodes 1 and 2 together are now $18 total, the third episode will be the final part of Half-Life 3 and that should bring the game's total price to about $25-30, half the price of the next copy-pasted "shoot bad guys THE GAME" every other company is making
Let's set a new law in place.
This brings up the Korean MMO problem.
You have to pay $100 to have anything decent and it's leased to you for a week.
40$ games + demo.
