Pokémon GO Passes $160 Million Worldwide Revenue, Usage Remains Strong
Pokémon GO still has a lot of ground to cover in terms of global availability, but while countries including China and Brazil anxiously await its arrival, the app has hit another major milestone. Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data now shows that the app has surpassed $160 million in worldwide net revenue on the App Store and Google Play since releasing on July 6.

There’s no denying that sentiment about the app’s July 30 update has been overwhelmingly negative. On the U.S. App Store, 62 percent of ratings for the game post-update have been unfavorable (two or fewer stars), with 51 percent of all ratings at one star. In Japan, Pokémon’s home territory, the update has been met with 82 percent negative sentiment, with nearly 75 percent of all ratings at one star.
Despite sending a strong message with this feedback—and strongly worded messages via Twitter and Facebook—we’ve found that the average iOS user of Pokémon GO in the United States spent no less time in the app since the update than in the week before it dropped. In fact, average daily usage for the past three days actually increased slightly to about 26 minutes.
For comparison, we also looked at how daily usage of the game is holding up against the Facebook app, and, as you can see, the average Pokémon GO user is still spending more time in it than an average Facebook user is in that app each day. Average daily usage of Pokémon GO has decreased slightly since we last looked at it, but it is still very high compared to other top mobile apps and games.
Was that the update that removed the tracker showing how close pokemon are to you?

Not that it mattered since the tracker was broken before then.
It did do other stupid shit though.
I honestly don't understand: what was so awful about the recent update?

There's no real way to track pokemon and the main third party way to track pokemon online was threatened to be sued so they took the website down on the same day.
People thought they should either fix steps and then shut down the third party site or remove steps for now and leave the third party sites up, but they removed both.
This teaches us an important lesson:
No matter how much you fuck up your game, half the people that use your app, and other mobile apps, are fucking idiots who don't care anyways.
I care that they removed steps, but it's more fun to work with other players at parks.
I have an app that tracks pokemons. I feel so dirty using it. But tbh kinda unplayable without it since i live far away from city.
Wonder if they can retain the fanbase by the time they get to adding the Alola pokemon

Claiming players are idiots because they still enjoy the game despite some negative changes, quality shit post. I mean it's been frustrating a few times but the vast majority of play has remained the same, and if you've been out meeting people and being social (given the post, unlikely) they can really help finding things.

Name of the app?
I still play Pokemon GO on my way home from work occasionally, but I've kinda lost motivation to play now that people can easily cheat and get any Pokemon they want.
But reddit told me that everyone stopped playing because they removed the tracking and that Niantic are literally nazis!
Seriously though, I think they're fully remaking the tracking system because there were reports of it being broken since beta (where it showed Meters instead of Footsteps).
I stopped playing it because of the changes.
-Removed tracker and CnD'd tracking sites
-Reduced pokemon spotting distance (radar)
-Made the radar refresh every 10 seconds instead of the previous 5 seconds, and it used to be just 1 second (means that if you're going even at basic bicycle speed, the pokemon won't pop up in time before your radar goes past them).
-Made pokemon even harder to catch / they escape easier
-Terrible communication from Niantic
It's no longer a game about finding pokemon, it's just a lottery.

Same here. The game is pretty much pointless right now.

It was really never a game to begin with. Like they have the foundation for what could be a great Pokemon game, but the capturing mechanics are just not very deep and evolving and powering up Pokemon is a chore of luck.
I've been opening it less and less everyday because it's just not as entertaining as other mobile games. The rose-tinted veneer has worn off for me.

So far it's just an excuse to go out to the city on my weekends with my girlfriend or friends to catch rarer pokemon or what not.
It's really not that good outside of that context imo.

That's certainly true, but most of the time I can spend playing it is at home where nothing good is in a reasonable walking distance and I feel like if I have to drive somewhere just to walk it sort of defeats the purpose.
I'm glad I haven't noticed anybody bothering my house for Pokemon.

The tracking being removed doesn't really bother me. It literally never worked for me and should just be replaced with a better system.
The other stuff has me concerned though. I don't want them to ruin their game for the sake of squeezing more money out of people. The game has great potential to be a major force for good. They have a fantastic foundation to work off of. They should be trying to make it as much like a modern day Pokemon game as possible, not on how to force more profits.
I just want some sort of casual fight mechanics so atleast even if I'm not actively interested in finding new pokemon or taking over gyms, I can atleast have fun with friends. :(
