Most of us put up with those frustrations where as Peter Sunde, formerly of The Pirate Bay, tends to act on them with far reaching consequences. According to Sunde’s Twitter feed he has been suspicious of ICANN for a long time. The non-profit corporation is tasked with managing both the IPv4 and IPv6 Internet Protocol address spaces as well as handling the management of top-level domain name space including the operation of root nameservers. Sunde has lost a domain in the past because of the way ICANN acted. It was taken without any consultation on their part, instead the organization relied on information from recording industry group IFPI to change the domain ownership. But it seems for some reason his frustration has come to a head recently, and he has put a call out for help to create a competing root server. The tweet pronouncing this read:
Hello all #isp of the world. We’re going to add a new competing root-server since we’re tired of #ICANN. Please contact me to help.
His plan involves the creation of a DNS root server to begin with that uses peer-to-peer technology and is secure. It will be quite basic, but open and secure which is what Sunde wants. Beyond that we don’t know how serious of a project this is, or if Sunde is just venting due to current problems he’s having with an ISP or ICANN specifically. Keep an eye on his Twitter feed for more information. [/release] Peter Sunde's Twitter
Hello all #isp of the world. I have no idea what's going on.
How about ICANN'T?
And call it the undernet.
Or shadow internet. :smug:
The Sub-Net.
The Sub-Net.
Sweet.
The Sub-Net.
I like it We need this as the goverment is controlling ICANN now
I like it We need this as the goverment is controlling ICANN now
Welcome to a Socialist government!
How about ICANN'T?
I'm sure there was some "organization" called 'YOUCANN'
The Sub-Net.
You'll know nerds made it with a pun like that.
Yes we CANN!
Already posted, but I really hope this will work.
Welcome to a Socialist government!
Government had their dick in ICANN since it started
Government had their dick in ICANN since it started
Moreso now though.
Moreso now though.
Internet is more prevalent now
The shadow net.
The shadow net.
I already said that.
I have no idea what's going on.
You know how ICANN owns all the .com, .net and all that right? And you know how now they can close any website that ends in one of those if someone bitches about them. Well Sunde said "Fuck that shit" and is making something like ICANN without the "douchebags" part. Atleast I think that's what's going on.
To be fair, I have been wondering for a long time now as to why there hasn't been a rival to icann Also depending on how they make this alternative, you could easily have domain names with no extensions or custom ones and stuff
Sky-net.

Icunt
