So I was looking at either the £84 XFX 4850 or the £100 GIGABYTE 4870 on Overclockers and I wondered if the 4870 was worth the extra price. The 4870 has twice as much VRAM I noticed as well.
How much is your max budget? The 4870 is overpriced ATM, I saw it for 80 quid about 2 months ago.

Well I'm already stretching my budget with the 4850, but if the performance increase is big enough I'll happily jump to a 4870.

I'd recommend waiting a little and getting 5770 but if you absolutely must get the 4870.

I'll probably wait and get the 5770; I didn't get as much Christmas money as I hoped, so I'll have to save up. Though I might be able to get something in the January sales ...

Maybe, it's just a better idea to wait really seeing as the 5770 has almost equal performance as the 4870 but over clocked it's quite amazing what you can get out of it.
Could go for 4860.

The 4860 has crappy drivers support.

Actually I just checked out some benchmarks and the 4870 seems to outperform the 5770 by a small margin each time, the 5770 is more expensive, and I'm not really aiming to overclock, so I think I'll go with the 4870 actually. Thanks for all the help!
the 5770 is more expensive
Whoa, where you buying?
From most of the shops the 4870s overpriced!

Yeah, but the 5770 has DX11 and EyeFinity, and is the same price. I guess if your getting a 1gb 4870, then go for it, but I mean... You really should consider a 5770... Actually, they're the same price on newegg (the 1gb 4870 and 1gb 5770).

And in Finland.

It uses the same drivers as everything else?

Overclockers. Different editions of the 4870 (XFX, Gigabyte etc.) cost between £98 and £153, and different editions of the 5770 cost between £120 and £140.
