I installed my new processor monday and just officially fired up my computer to do assorted things, like check temps and what not. But im gettings one weird one.. look at temp 3! that one is off the charts! My P4 didn't even get that hot. Im not sure why it is so high. Maybe i should reseat my heatsink? (I do have a whole brand new cylinder of thermal paste.)
Likely to be faulty sensor. Well it must be, if it was at those temps the other cores would heat up along with it.
Well of course but I want to be on the safe side. Any other possibilities?
That's not a CPU sensor. It's either a motherboard sensor, or more likely a dead (dummy) sensor. Try HWMonitor, more accurate.
Actually looking at it deeper core two is considerably hotter than core one. I suppose that one is closer to core three so core three is heating it up. I suppose you should leave it running for about 5 minutes, check core twos temp and see if it climbs more.
My computer has been on for an hour And its stayed at 74 wait now its 73
Turn it off then and leave it to cool for about an hour. When you turn it back on try to fire up HWmonitor or whatever as soon as you can and see if it is below 73/74.

I need to get off as I'm hogging the internet connection from our only modem right now :(
Here, look at mine: -2C, not likely. AFAIK most mobos have a dead sensor like that. Edit: when they're in the form TMPIN like that even HWMonitor will pick up the dead sensor.
