Washington (CNN)Donald Trump will become president Friday with an approval rating of just 40%, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll, the lowest of any recent president and 44 points below that of President Barack Obama, the 44th president.
Following a tumultuous transition period, approval ratings for Trump's handling of the transition are more than 20 points below those for any of his three most recent predecessors. Obama took the oath in 2009 with an 84% approval rating, 67% approved of Clinton's transition as of late December 1992 and 61% approved of George W. Bush's transition just before he took office in January 2001.
Obama's current approval rating is 57%.

[RIGGED]
I guess we can add Trump himself to the list of people who don't understand how percentages work in regards to probability.
Anyone who doesn't praise trump postively is clearly fake.
It is like he lives in his own reality

He does
That is the scary part
Fake news people
Maths was invented by the liberal elite
Well of course it puts Trump in a negative light, do you _really_ expect CNN to say anything good about him??

Here's a Gallup poll.

Three days old, 44% vs 40% today. Obviously still not good.
The polls are still rigged, almost two months after I rode a wave of a minority of voters into the White House.
This is just annoying now. We already know that he's a petulant crybaby. I'm just tired of being reminded of this every single day.

It isn't CNN's job to say good things about Trump.
Honestly at this point, I'm waiting for him to scream that reality itself is rigged/biased/fake.
I will fucking laugh my ass off when that day comes. Then I'll lock myself in a room with a bottle of booze and cry, cause then I'll remember this shitstain is our "leader."
Christ America, the fuck were you thinking?

The majority of people who voted voted Hillary. Don't group everyone in with the 20% of the population that voted for Trump.
I really don't expect Trunp's approval rating to get above 50%
Still surprise me his approval rating at 40%
I would really like to see this drop to at least 30%. That would without a shadow of a doubt delegitimise his presidency completely.
I hope Trump does well but I also hope he doesn't rip out any progress made in the last 8 years.
I hope Trump does well but I also hope he doesn't rip out any progress made in the last 8 years.
I would say the GOP ripping the ACA apart is exactly that, but we don't know its replacement...
Let's be honest though, the types of people who love Trump while hating the gubbermint aren't the type to pick up a landline telephone and answer questions about how they think the transition is going- there's bound to be some underrepresentation there
traditional polling has been in trouble for years now; landlines have been its mainstay but they are becoming less and less viable for accurate polling
that's why they also did this poll through mobiles
everything is fake! reality is rigged! nothing is true! only what you hear from trusted sources like breitbart and the right stuff can be trusted!
Jesus, how does anyone find this guy credible anymore
Makes me wonder why there arent laws put in place to prevent a presidential elect with less than 50% approval rating from taking office, because at that point its essentially less than 50% approve.
I hope Trump does well but I also hope he doesn't rip out any progress made in the last 8 years.
Unfortunately those two ideas are completely antithetical. Trump's success depends on ripping apart the last eight years of progress. It's literally written into his campaign platform.
Saying "I hope Trump has a successful presidency" is essentially the same as saying "I hope Trump repeals the ACA, adds billions to the national debt, bans Muslims, deregulates the fuck out of the oil and finance industries, rewrites the tax code in his own favor, guts net neutrality laws, lets Putin get away with military expansion in Europe, and grabs a shit-ton of pussy"
I'm all for reconciliation and well-wishes but this guy is a straight-up maniac.

That's why we have professionals in statistics doing this job. While I agree that many amateur pollsters fuck up and often underrepresent/overrepresent a certain group, Gallup has a pretty good history of covering its bases.
Trump was an unpopular vote-in from the Democrats by default, but his recent actions have also really started to grind on Republican nerves.
I feel like we need a term for Trump's constant claims of everything being rigged against him so he can harvest victim points.
How about "riggered"?
The fact that history will remember him as anything more than a failed reality tv show star makes me sick to my stomach. At least there'll be a nice paragraph in the Social Studies books of the future about "America's Worst President: Donald J. Trump".
The upshot of this is that it can really only improve from here on out. If he proves a lot of people wrong in 4 years and the Democrats vote for another uninspiring nominee he could definitely win re-election.

No, the scary part is that he doesn't live there alone.
This is coming from the same goons that said that Hilliary had a 90% chance of winning in their polls.
Yeah, alright guys, keep playing that trumpet till it rusts why don't ya.
Do you understand statistics? It's really not that complex a field.
90% chance doesn't mean she's going to win. It means there's a high probability of that being the case. But if you've been paying attention you'd know that the one polling aggregating group that isn't a total shitshow, 538, explained why their thing wasn't was lop-sided. And even that showed Hillary with a higher change of winning because polling generally did show her favourably. And the "90%" stuff largely comes down to how they aggregate the data. Most places use somewhat simplistic modelling compared to dedicated groups like 538.
But when a Gallup poll is showing pretty much the same result, there's little reason to question CNNs polling here. Gallup are one of the few genuinely trustworthy polling agencies out there. If someone is matching their findings, it's probably a pretty solid representation of opinion.
The upshot of this is that it can really only improve from here on out.
I'm pretty sure I thought the same thing after he defended the size of his dick in the Republican debate.

Without going into why "90% chance to win" isn't necessarily getting it wrong when you land on the 10%, these "chance of winning" percentages aren't comparable to regular polling. The difference between a (prediction of) 99.9% for Hillary and 99.9% for Trump may only be a swing of 10% or whatever of the total vote. Regular polling "57% want this, 43% want this" have fairly small margins of error when done properly, which is also what you'll find if you look at the final vote tally for the presidential election and compare it to the polling. Doing a prediction is something else entirely.
With that said, I don't think it's really all that meaningful to say whether Trump has an approval rating of 40%, 36% or 44%. But it's probably thereabouts.
