Opinions on the A10 7850K? Tom's Hardware did a benchmark / review of it on release, and it looks nice gaming-wise while (For the most part) Intel takes the cake for compiling / content creation. I'm running a Gen1 Bulldozer FX 6100 (I was not a smart person...) on an Asus M5A87 Mobo OC'd to 4.0GHz and I'm reeeeeallly looking to upgrade soon. However, I have a limited budget and I'm not really wanting to spend more than $200 on a new CPU / Cpu+Mobo upgrade. Graphics card should be okay though, it's an HD 7870 GHz edition. I currently use the computer for Gaming and Content Creation as I'm a 3D Generalist in college for Animation and Game Design. I also record some Let's Play videos for my rather small Youtube channel during extra free time.
Your motherboard is an AM3+ socket while the APU's take an FM2. I guessssss and 8 core FX would work with rendering software, but it would suffer for gaming over even an i3. [editline]16th January 2014[/editline] I guess the new APU's are an FM2+ socket. But still not compatible.
Yeah, I know I'll need a new motherboard for pretty much anything that isn't AM3 / AM3+ (Phenom and FX). Kaveri is on FM2+ sockets, so I'll need a new Mobo for that. One thing I'm looking for is performance of the new Kaveri over the FX series. Intel is up there and most likely a perfect choice over AMD for performance, however I still like AMD (Yeah, bit of a fanboy) because of it's Performance/Price ratio and general ability to overclock (FX 6100 is stock 3.3. I get 4.0GHz no problem and could even go higher to possibly 4.3 or 4.4) But yeah... Trying to get under $200 for that specific upgrade.
