Well, they're still in Alpha, so their main priority is content before fixes and performance unless it's absolutely gamebreaking.
Beta periods are usually bugfixing and optimization.
I tried playing it again this week and it runs a lot better than like half a year ago when I tried it last time, but still far from perfect. The UI still looks like crap and since I didn't follow the game's development I couldn't believe it when I saw the game takes up more than 60 GB on the hard drive. It was like 20 GB in May 2015.

Let's see if that adhere to that once they get out of alpha and move into beta, though.
So many indie devs seem to not understand what the stages of "alpha", "beta", and "retail" / "release" generally mean.

If their main priority was adding content they wouldn't be selling it for $20 extra
