Well, I signed up for the Navy on January 31st. Ive always been interested in it, and their technology. I signed up for the submarine electronics and computers field, and am wondering if anyone here on facepunch would have some stories of how the Navy is like to share. I ship out to the Great Lakes training facility on July 26th.
At least you didn't join the Army.
Have fun, be safe Are you going to be seeing any combat? Sounds more deskjob-esque
I am going to avoid any possible homosexual jokes and ask a real question. What work is there for the Navy in the lakes?
Should have joined the Marines. That's my opinion, I know a few people who have been in or are joining the Marines. It seems to turn them into really good people from their life before.
You're slightly less likely to die compared to some other branches of the armed forces. Good job.
Also, if I'm correct this is what you'll be doing in the submarine electronics and computers field?
I have a friend who's joining the Navy and passed the test to become a Nuclear Technician for them. Apparently pays ridiculous amounts of money and after staying your required time in the Navy, you still get ridiculous amounts of money from them for doing nothing. Sounds like a damn fine deal if you're smart enough to pass that test along with getting a high score on the ASVAB.

I'll probably think differently after a month underwater though. Well, I made an 82 on the ASVAB they said I could sign up for Nuclear, but want me to take the placement test anyway, but apparently the test got leaked or something so im stuck waiting for probably 6 more weeks or so before they get a new test ready.
Good luck commanding that desk and it's crew of pens, pencils and paper.
Subs are very cramped lonely places with lots of men...Make sure you bring a ton of porno.
Your job is going to be like a game of Silent Hunter.
Should have joined the Marines. That's my opinion, I know a few people who have been in or are joining the Marines. 96 on asvab here the recruiter guy shat his pants when he saw the results :/ fuck that I'm going to college the funny thing is I took it as a joke, we took it during periods 1-4 and I wanted to get out of classes for a day to top that off I totally bombed the electricity and mechanical portions of the test because I didn't study and know jack shit about them and I still ended up having the highest grade of the entire school who are we accepting into the military nowadays
Sounds awesome good luck.
I have a good buddy that joined 3 years ago. He is an engineer on a sub. He told me the longest they spent underwater was six months. Now his boats dry docked as it's getting major technical upgrades. He isn't staying in after his four years, but said it was a great life choice.
96 on asvab here the recruiter guy shat his pants when he saw the results :/ fuck that I'm going to college
Or you could let them pay for college and get a cushy desk job.
96 on asvab here the recruiter guy shat his pants when he saw the results :/ fuck that I'm going to college
Well, im poor :( So Im going to try and use the Navy to get some college. Also, could someone here please explain how the GI Bill works. Because I really do want to go to college someday.
Or you could let them pay for college and get a cushy desk job.
Some people aspire to do something with their lives you know
Or you could let them pay for college and get a cushy desk job.
I was considering going into the airforce academy so that I can major in Aerospace, get 2000 hrs of jet flight experience, and then go sign up as a pilot with SpaceX or something... but I don't know
So. Ive noticed. You gold members always have the most awesome avatars. Just saying. Anyhow, anybody here ever been in the navy?
haha you're future seaman
96 on asvab here the recruiter guy shat his pants when he saw the results :/ fuck that I'm going to college
Be a nuke tech then. Probably the highest paying Navy job and no combat or anything.
but have a good one
At least you didn't join the Army.
So true, I've got a lot more respect for the navy than the army (still not marines though!) Marines > Navy > Coast Guard > Airforce > Army You joined at a good time, they bumped up the training to 12-13 weeks now and you'll actually recieve some combat training. It used to be just 40 rounds from an m9 and 3 from a mossburg 500! it didn't matter what you scored either!
Nice man, good luck! [editline]31st May 2011[/editline] UncleJimmema aren't you in the USMC?
Some people aspire to do something with their lives you know
How does that have any relation to anything?
Should have joined the Marines. That's my opinion, I know a few people who have been in or are joining the Marines. Do you have any idea specifically what you'd be working on?
