The crash occurred in both ways of the motorway. The scene was "horrifying", the INEM(National Institute for Medical Emergency) described. Civil Protection indicated that there were 46 vehicles involved in the accident. Ten light vehicles and two heavy vehicles actually caught on fire, and according to the Aveiro Traffic Brigade's major, two people(an adult and a child) that were inside an LPG(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquefied_petroleum_gas) fueled car were carbonized. The first crash occurred on the Aveiro/Viseu way, next to the Talhadas knot. About a mile away, at Kilometer 45.6 of the A25, on the opposite way, the second crash happened. According to witness reports, people who travelled in the Viseu/Aveiro way were stopping to help victims, at request from other drivers. However, a fuel-carrying truck could not brake, supposedly due to the wet road, and drove along the edge, ramming 19 light vehicles, 2 heavy vehicles and a motorcycle. This second crash resulted in 2 mortal victims(A woman who was ran over and a child) and injured 13. The fifth mortal victim was a 52-year-old portuguese woman whose residence was in Brazil. Out of those 72 injured people, 24 of them are in critical conditon. Quoting from hospital sources, minister Rui Pereira communicated reports of 6 people who died in hospital. However such data has not been confirmed. 24 injured people arrived to the Aveiro Hospital from ambulances from all over the country, in order to collaborate with the rescue operation. Besides Aveiro Hospital, four other hospitals also recieved victims from this enormous crash. According to Civil Protection, 184 firefighters and 59 emergency vehicles were concentrated on the scene. 2 Helicopters were also used. The causes for this pile-up? Incredibly thick fog, which witnesses said made the path completely invisible.
Rubbish 3D rendering of what happened: This was, according to people in the fire departments, traffic brigade and civil protection, the worst crash ever in Portugal.

I looked it up, and I am having a hard time understanding it. They were burned to more than ashes?
I didn't think it would be very serious
Carbonized? That sounds fucking terrible.
Wiki copy/paste
Carbonization or carbonisation is the term for the conversion of an organic substance into carbon or a carbon-containing residue through pyrolysis or destructive distillation.
Who cares about the north of Portugal? The Algarve is where it's at.
I'm not surprised since NO ONE FUCKING KNOWS HOW TO DRIVE IN THIS COUNTRY, jesus, everyone just tailgates everyone else, there's a space of what, half a meter? [editline]03:05PM[/editline] Probably the worst drivers in Europe.
I don't get why people cant learn how you are supposed to slow down in bad weather.

The crash looks like something out of a movie. This is really horrible though.
This isn't funny you know. The psychological damage will cause some people to crash down and be driven to madness
They did take that into consideration, and along with the tents set up at the spot for imediate first-aid, there were also psychiatrists to aid the people, because it's best to overcome the trauma on spot.
This happened 15min from where I live, pretty scary once you think about it.
