Sound's not working correctly even though it should.

Hey, I've had this problem before, but usually it fixed itself oddly enough.

Every time i've been out traveling for at least two weeks and left my coputer shut off, i come home to a computer that has no sound.
The device manager says it works fine, i haven't muted anything and the sound worked for just a few seconds then i had some wierd sound like *bzrttchhh* and the sound disapeared along with my regular sound.

However(!) this problem usually fixed itself, as i mentioned before, but im not sure it will this time. Could it be the sound card thats given up on me?
