Recently, I got a copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from a friend, but I'm having trouble playing it for more than five minutes because it crashes straight to a BSOD, with the reason on the BSOD being "BAD_POOL_HEADER". I'm fairly experienced when it comes to maintaining my computer, so I'm certain it's not a virus or malware. Also, for some reason, I'm only getting this problem with this game.
I did some checking online, and I think I have to update my sound drivers, but I already have the most up-to-date drivers I need(and again, this is an issue affecting this game alone, on a computer that has no issues with much more resource intensive games/programs). I decided to ask here for help, since' I'm almost completely out of options on how to fix this.
Also, the data the error report contained:
Code:
BCCode : 19 BCP1 : 00000020 BCP2 : 89351438 BCP3 : 89351578
BCP4 : 0A280001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1
Some help would be appreciated.
Are you certain those drivers are up-to-date? Don't update them from Windows Update, but go find the manufactures site and get them there instead, if you can.
And while you're at it, you might want to update Windows in it's entirety and that includes hardware drivers. When you're done, come back and tell us if the problem is still existing after Windows and hardware drivers have been updated.

Since it's only that game, have you updated the game to the latest version?
Well, My computer is fully updated save for the sound driver(SP3, etc.) I found the latest version of the Realtek HD Audio sound driver but now I can't get the thing to install right. I'm now getting a "Bad DirectSound Driver" error.
Screw it, Reinstalling and screwing over my PC isn't worth playing a game I already have on Playstation.
I would say uninstall sound driver and then install the newest ones, but it's your choice.

Do you have a OEM computer? aka HP or Compaq, Dell? Often they have modified drivers for there hardware, For example I have a Realtek AC'97 audio driver thats version 5.2 but the latest I found on google was 4.06. Do to the computer manufact. website. best I can give.

Well, I tried that. Twice. I found the latest HD driver from Realtek and installed that, and its giving me issues.

I have a crap Gateway PC. THe driver I currently have installed(and not working) is Ver. 2.44, but its a generic driver from Realtek, and it warns you on the front page that it may or may not work depending on your hardware. I guess it depended on my hardware.

Fuck it, I'll go look on the Gateway web site, see if they have it.

And now it's stuck on the 2004 driver. Seriously, I'm trying to update it to a 2007 driver and it reverts to the 2004 driver instead. :wtf:
Are you trying to install via installer or Device Manager.

The installer that came with it. I'll try the Device Manager next though.
I think I fixed the issue. I practically had to drag and drop the driver file into the folder it needed to go, but the game works now.
