Following a motion filed Thursday by Alabama's attorney general, a judgedismissed state misdemeanor assault charges against a Madison police officer who allegedly slammed an Indian man to the ground last February during a suspicious-person stop.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange's request came after two federal juries failed to reach verdicts in the civil rights case against Eric Parker, the officer accused of taking down 58-year-old Sureshbhai Patel, who was left seriously injured. U.S. District Judge Madeline Hughes Haikala, who presided over both trials, acquitted Parker in January, saying there was little chance a third trial would yield a different result.

"After a review of the federal trial testimony, it does not appear that there would be sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt," Strange said in a statement. "Thus, we have a duty to move to dismiss the charge."
Fuuuuuck prosecutors
Cops are above law? Surprise, surprise. If there's any actual dirt, they just take them out for a moment and bring them back later when it has calmed down.
I don't get how slamming someone down for a suspicious stop is seen as a way to do such a search.
Wouldn't you go up to the person, body search him even if it also compromised his privacy. Why hurt him? Oh well, depends on why their was a suspicious stop to begin with.
Hold on just for walking suspiciously around garages? Slamming him into ground once you've already apprehended him. Like I'm surprised he didn't break his neck from that, that was unexpected and brutal.
I have no words.
Probably a lot left out that we dont know. I dont trust a lot of the media reportings now because it appears stories get twisted to fit the cop-hating-agenda and thus the reportings seem heavily leaned towards the cop being the bad guy.
I cant type worth a shit today, I cant think of a better way to put that so excuse me.

Heh. Let's wait for all the facts to come out, right?
A frail old Indian man got his shit broken for being mistakened as a "suspicious black male" in a suburban neighborhood. There's no way you can or should defend blatant police brutality.
They might've gotten ticked off as he apparently didn't speak english well, so when he started speaking they felt threatened and slammed him into the ground.
Totally reasonable!

Do you have evidence of intent from the cop or a offical released story to explain the escalation of events that lead up to the old man being tackled. Or are you just going to sit back and clack away replies that cater to the popular retoric while having nothing to back them up?
Man that old indian dude is just milking it.

So your telling me being slammed forcefully into the ground and being paralyzed from it is not ground for bringing up a case against the people that did that to you.
Okiedokie.
Video shows everything I need to see to know this was a massively inappropriate use of force. They have him in handcuffs, he is standing perfectly still with an officer on either side of him, and then the cop literally fucking slams him face first into the ground.
Anybody who looks at this video and sees nothing wrong should not be in law enforcement. This is disgusting and uncalled for.

Evidence:
1.) Read the article
2.) Watch the video in the article
3.) Read this article, too
Some asshole cop probably wanted to flex his muscles on a 57 year old man, like it or not.

what's wrong with you.

Yeah, but if someone tries to stop a robber with a gun everyone calls for their head.
"slow motion clips showed him resisting"
Are you serious? This somehow justifies slamming a 58-year old who couldn't understand the cops onto the ground and partially paralysing him?
The previous facepunch thread regarding this with a lot more detail.

How so? Please do tell.
Being paralyzed for being suspicious is outrageous... some people defending this shit, are you fucking nuts.

Those police were trying to help that man and protect you, they just want to go home at night. How about a little empathy for our proud heroes?

they perminently paralyzed a man for no good reason and damaged the credibility of their office and thereby put all other officers in further harm by creating more mistrust of the system through their unwarrented use of force
