[release]On September 17th, men and women of all races, backgrounds, political and religious beliefs, began to organize in nonviolent protest. These men and women represent the 99% with the goal of ending the greed and corruption of the wealthiest 1% of America. Occupy Wall Street is a leaderless resistance movement which began as a call to action from Adbusters, a Canadian-based anti-consumerist organization.
The original projections for the protest were to be between 20,000–90,000 participants. However, when only a little over a thousand protestors showed up the first day, it was labeled a bust. In the days to follow, more and more people have joined the protestors as they spend day and night in Liberty Square.
As stated by Occupy Wall Street:
“The beauty of this new formula, and what makes this novel tactic exciting, is its pragmatic simplicity: we talk to each other in various physical gatherings and virtual people’s assemblies … we zero in on what our one demand will be, a demand that awakens the imagination and, if achieved, would propel us toward the radical democracy of the future … and then we go out and seize a square of singular symbolic significance and put our asses on the line to make it happen.[/release]

And what exactly do they hope to achieve by "occupying" Wall Street?
I'm thinking of dropping by there tomorrow, see what's going on in person. I'll take some pretty pictures if I can.
We need more things like this in other cities, and to be honest we need more public reaction to things that happen over here.

I know it's the Intel Hub and known for being crazy shit, but at times it's kinda funny to read what crazy conspiracy theorists think of everyday things.
Let's hope it doesn't turn violent.
Really fucking hope it doesn't.
There goes another thread full of "They won't achieve anything" from people who will never even attempt anything, and only sit back and whine about how bad the world is.

That's the spirit!

I have a feeling it'll be the Police to do something overstepping the line.

They won't achieve anything. I don't whine about how bad the world is, we're actually extremely lucky to have it as good as we are having it now, and no the situation (with a small pecentage living with all comforts and holding all the power while most are poor and have very little say in important matters) will never change, it's human nature.
Work against the flow (the "man", the "machine", the system, or whatever people want to call it) and you'll just damage yourself.
I don't see what they hope to achieve, the "1% rich people" basically have it however they want, if the government try to do anything to reduce their fortunes or tax them more then they'll move to a country which suits them better and the US will lose out more by their money moving elsewhere

Yeah, and if you let that thing control you, it'll eventually boil down to revolt anyway.
As is human nature.

What does any protest hope to achieve?
I've always been amazed by their propaganda. It just feels..So fresh :v:

Yeah, I guess that's why they were leaving en masse in the 90s when their taxes were higher, or in the 70s when their taxes were EVEN HIGHER.

Riiiight, and that's constant over the whole world? Right? Or wait, maybe it isn't, but USA certainly has it better than rest of the world, so these people have no point in bitching anyway.

It's a cycle. Every revolt ends up with a new elite replacing the old elite, since humans always seek a leader (or a few).

and seek to be better than everyone else too

So post-revolution America (1776) was just as bad as Colonial America? Republican China (1912) was just as bad as the Qing Dynasty?
TJ makes some good points in this video.

So, what you're saying is, be happy it's just okay and not strive to make it better? I'm sorry, but that's bullshit.

A cycle which always end up with a little bit more balanced society. First we had emperors with very small caste of nobles, then kings with somewhat bigger caste of aristocrats, and slaves were slowly phased out. Industrial age had similar thing with coal sellers, and so on. It's a cycle, but each iteration brings a slightly better result.

No, I said I don't whine about it or oppose it, I go with it I try to become part of those having it good instead.
Not everyone is satisfied with the position that they're in. Not everyone has it "good". Some people are in some pretty horrid conditions and would like to stand up for something to change. I see nothing wrong with this.

I'm not very fond of the overall meme theme in this picture. I just find it inspiring.

Don't oppose the status quo because "it could be worse"? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

From Greece to Rome, to the Middle Ages, to the Early Modern Age, and finally to the Modern Age.
No it didn't always get better, if you are talking about post-Middle Ages it's an absurdly short time period to analyze (heck 2000 years is pretty short too, considering things didn't go as fast as today back then).

Never said it was wrong (though I don't think they'll achieve much). I just said I won't.

If you guys are founding a new political party I'm willing to do all the boring safe jobs like running the newspaper or electing new people to help in the cause.
