• Looking to upgrade either CPU or GPU

hello all, my specs are as follows: [IMG]http://puu.sh/dNAGS/b7b3295ca8.png[/IMG] all my parts were purchased 2+ years ago and my performance with video games (specifically arma 3) has been lacking recently. i'm satisfied with my ram, power supply, and hard drive for now, though i may upgrade in the future. so, my question is: would it be better to upgrade my cpu (and motherboard (amd to intel)) or gpu, specifically to increase performance with arma 3? my budget is ~$400 (for cpu+mobo or just gpu). the parts i have in mind are the intel i5-4590 + asus z97 or a gtx 970 for graphics. [editline]28th December 2014[/editline] however, if there were some way to increase performance by upgrading the cpu AND gpu on the cheap, then i am happy to go that route as well. [editline]28th December 2014[/editline] i also play on a single 1920x1080 monitor
Both are going to be holding you back for ARMA. And you're never really going to get it to run completely smoothly, just because it's ARMA. That said, a CPU change would help more. I'd recommend a 4590 and H97 board, and keep the ~$130 to put to the side for a new GPU when you can. good idea. i'm hoping for a pretty significant boost in cpu performance, not just for arma 3 but overall, at least until i can secure a hefty graphics card.
You could opt for a 4690k and Z97 board and aftermarket cooler and be better set, but it would be at the absolute max of your budget. And while it would definitely make a difference, it wouldn't make as big of one as $130 more towards a GPU.
You'd definitely be better off in the long run upgrading your CPU. I don't think a much more powerful GPU could run through your current processor.
thanks guys, will put in an order once i get some moolah set aside
