no shit the only reason i never prioritized saving shaundi was because you had to save that pretentious cunt sasha grey as well and dont get me started on the other chicks in the trailers and saints 2 thats just hella stupid
I loved that aspect in the game. I mean all the sex humor was hillarious and the saints gang is now always associated with sexual humour in my head.
Saints Row started off as a parody version of GTA. But somehow it became dumb, like Postal. It isn't parodying anything anymore - it's just serving up dumb shit.
Parodies are usually better with no sequel, the point of a parody is to make fun of controversial topics of the original, if you keep making sequels, you will eventually run out of controversial topics to make fun of, and will slowly become a copypaste of what you used to make fun of.
id still play it...

I mean I get the hate for the games but how do you miss that? They even called their ship the Nebuchadnormandy.

Airplane and The Naked Gun were parodies of movies in general, there was no central controversy to pick at. All the movies did was deconstruct the typical tropes and themes. That's what Saints Row does.

Also Sasha Grey

God forbid it's not a dark, gritty, somber, brown, dirty, and serious game like 99% of games are nowadays. I respect what Volition is doing because instead of getting the same shit with a different mask on, we're getting something completely different. No other game can give what Saints Row gives.

That's just a problem with outsourcing to another company that doesn't understand the original product. What about Bulletstorm? That tried parodying the FPS genre and missed the mark.
Postal 2 is the best bad game ever made. Clunky, buggy, unpolished, ugly, but a fucking blast to play.
Postal 2 is the best bad game ever made. Clunky, buggy, unpolished, ugly, but a fucking blast to play.
Forgot about Saints Row 2 bro (ugly and buggy, but at least it had a good story)

SR2's story is just okay at best. It's just really fun to play the side content. Same with 3. It's actually, you know, fun to play and screw around with.
I will admit, I had no clue porn stars were even involved in the game until now.
I will admit, I had no clue porn stars were even involved in the game until now.
SR2's content was outside content in 2008, and SR3's was a DLC. The only other thing I can think of would be an Initiation Station commercial involving two pornstars talking about it (and a bit of a nipple shown, I remember that). Makes sense not too many people know about their involvement.

The Adam West Batman movie has me cracking up yet everyone else though it was terrible so idk.
So Saints Row is pretty much the Scary Movie franchise of games?
The Scary Movies with David Zucker are actually pretty good. [editline]5th August 2013[/editline] Compared with the rest, at least.
You might be right because I'm always a sucker for shit like that. The Adam West Batman movie has me cracking up yet everyone else though it was terrible so idk.
Now see the reason I've always chosen Saint's Row over GTA is because they always contrasted the serious gang story with the ridiculous stuff you could do outside of the main story. In Saint's Row 2 you could go from putting a fellow gang member out of their misery after their face was peeled off (Carlos) to driving around a septic tanker and spraying shit on buildings in a matter of minutes. This contrast is what made Saint's Row 2 really shine in my opinion, but with the newer games they have removed any semblance of a serious story in favor of over the top ridiculousness. In SR3 hitting people over the head with a 7-foot long dildo was the norm and there was no paradigm, and Saint's Row 4 has just gone pants on head retard from the looks of the trailers. Saints Row 2 will always hold a special place in my heart but I really wish Volition would remember what made SR2 so great and reconsider their over the top approach with the newer games.
I've enjoyed Saints Row games more than GTA because they're fun to play. I didn't find GTA IV fun to play. And gameplay footage of Saints Row IV looks really fun to me, story notwithstanding, especially after seeing playtesters and members of the press who played it getting excited; even the ones who thought the game was gonna suck. So I'm optimistic.

I don't feel like the story was ever the strongsuit. The colorful characters, sure, but not the story.
I don't feel like the story was ever the strongsuit. The colorful characters, sure, but not the story.
The characters are another aspect that I felt was lacking in SR3, it seemed like they changed the personalities of people that you had already come to know and love (Shaundi and Pierce) and I don't think they did a very good job at fleshing out the new lieutenants with the exception of Olaf.
I don't feel like the story was ever the strongsuit. The colorful characters, sure, but not the story.
Saints Row 2 (maybe 1?) almost had something really going for it.
Saints Row 2 (maybe 1?) almost had something really going for it.
It certainly wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special. It was rather predictable.
Saints Row 2 (maybe 1?) almost had something really going for it.
Not really. Check out my post in the SR thread about its story. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1254021&p=41692020&viewfull=1#post41692020 To sum it up, SR1 had a very generic story with many generic characters. SR2 had a generic story with amazing and memorable characters to give the impression that it was a good story (however, the Ultor story is pretty nice). Every character, major and minor, were memorable. Remember Mr. Wong in the Ronin storyline? And Donnie? The thing with SR1 and 2 was that 2 expanded a shit ton of city history. In short, it revealed that Los Carnales were the first gang to rise up in Stilwater to push drugs. The Vice Kings came along because Ben King got some friends together to combat the Carnales. Julius left because he didn't like the gang violence and formed the Saints to combat it. Then, your character ends the gang violence. More is revealed about what happened in between Julius getting arrested and your character getting blown, like Dex leaving and Troy revealing he was a cop, getting promoted, etc. In short, it's not about the actual story but everything inbetween. Saints Row 3 tried to streamline the game by making a decent story, but failed because they had very shit characters. 4 seems to be fixing that.
