Moving away from XSeed for Japanese to English translation seems like an all-around bad idea to me.
I admittedly haven't played many games that they've localised, but they and Atlus USA seem to have done an almost flawless job so far.
Two months to retranslate the whole thing? Yeah right.

Updated localization plus asking Durante to fix their port :v:
After we delayed the release of Ys VIII on Steam, we reached out to Peter "Durante" Thoman for his expertise, and we are happy to report that he could share some of his hours with our developers these past few weeks. We asked Durante for his help with the following for this title: GPU performance improvements, CPU performance improvements, and developing a system for improving and regulating framerate. We also received feedback from Durante about a shadow rendering issue that we are looking into.
Still better than releasing a broken game, might have Steam reviews to thank for that

I mean now the game just comes with YsFix right off the bat instead of people having to download it themselves

^ what the fuck :v:
did they have non-native english speakers or something localize the game
like there's no way you can be a native and think that sounds okay, it sounds like something a 5 year old would call it

It's funny though, because in the space of six months Durante has officially worked on the PC ports of three Falcom games.
He was the lead programmer on Cold Steel's PC port, and likewise with Cold Steel 2's upcoming PC release, and now he's consulting on Ys 8.
TBH he probably understands the inner workings of Falcom's programming practices far more than anyone else at this point.
