I'm looking to build a new rig, and I would just like to hear what you would suggest, so I can compare it to the build I've already made. I have an optical drive, an OS, a mouse and a keyboard, but I need a new monitor. I would like to be able to OC it a good deal. I already have an SSD disk so that not necessary.
What I've put together so far is:

Which amounts to around 1285$ (I live in Denmark) 1 USD amounts to around 6 dkk.
So basically I need a monitor, and then whatever changes you would recommend to my build.
Køb en i5 750, og et tilsvarende motherboard. Hvis dit budget er så meget større, kunne du jo overveje Crossfire 5870.
Hvad er det der for en hjemmeside?
Og Samsung Syncmaster er en rigtig god serie.
He can speak english.
Yeah, but I speak danish.
Yes but 60% of FP doesn't.

Yeah I think we should keep this in english.
I added this motherboard instead, along with the i5-750: http://www.gigabyte.us/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3168
I also added a Samsung Syncmaster screen.
I'm up to 1590$ now. I'm willing to go as high as 1850$ for this build, would you recommend ditching the 5870 and going with Crossfire 5850s? Or is there anything I could downgrade in the build to maybe get Crossfire 5870s? I just need to know to know what will give the best upgrade to my build for the remaining money (you might think that 1850$ for a build is a little high, but hardware costs more in Denmark). And is it really worth it to get the i5 instead of the AMD? I heard they're comparable in performance in games, and coupled with the new motherboard it cost me about 80$ extra.
The site is edbpriser.dk
Woow that's pretty cheap RAM for Denmark...
Why bother go for an i5 when you get minimal difference in performance when you can get another 5870, get 2 5850s or maybe a 5970? I dont see the logic.
Yeah that's what I thought. I think I'm changing it back to the Phenom, not worth the extra money. Sticking with the monitor though.
Will that PSU be enough for a 5970? And how hot does the 5970 get, ie. will I need a cooler for it?
Well, as I recall it you can get a i5 750 for just under 1200DKK, and a mobo (socket 1156, of course) for 700.
Fuck the 5970 if you do not have a Eyefinity setup.
Go instead for a single 5870.
Actually, I plan on using an Eyefinity setup. And the i5 750 is around 1400 dkk, is the extra performance worth the extra 300 dkk?

Oh. No problem then.

690 II cant hold a 5970
It can if you do some modding. I have one, just take some shit out
Any other case you'd recommend then? And I think I'm sticking with the Phenom, gaming performance is most important for me, and they seem pretty equal at that.

I am in love with the HAF X for 200$, but I spent extra $ swapping all the fans out for blue led's since I think the red looks bad.

In gaming (COD4 at least) the phenom did better. So thats a definate no.

No. Maybe in some games it can do better, but we're talking like another 5 frames at the most. So no.
The site I'm ordering from doesn't have the HAF X, but I took a look at the 922 instead, and I think I'll be going with that, so thanks for the tip.
Just to be completely sure, will the PSU (750W Corsair) be enough for a 5970 and the other hardware, and will I need any extra coolers if I chose to OC the processor to, say, 4 GHz?

In gaming, you can't really measure it, unless it's a sequence. If you're playing multiplayer (or "for the record" for that matter) there will always be a difference in the amount of explosions, and such. When the difference is so small (about 1FPS) it could certainly just be that variabel. I don't say the i5 750 is worth the 1400DKK, I said he should choose for him self. The i5 750 is better anyway...

Yeah, there's no doubt the i5 is better, I just don't think it's enough to warrant the extra money. Thanks for the help though.
This is what I've come up with:

Anything you want to add? If not, I'll go with this. I want to OC the 5970 (accidentally cut out from the screenshot, it's this one: http://www.edbpriser.dk/Product/Details.aspx?pid=700554) and the CPU, if that is at all relevant. Also, the 850W PSU was a really good deal, so I went with it.
Okay, found out that OC'ing the 5970 is not really feasible with stockcooling, as the fan gets really loud. Should I buy an extra cooler?
