90-year-old, minister arrested for feeding the homeless
Ft. Lauderdale, FL - It did not take long for city of Fort Lauderdale to make good on the promise to criminally charge those who violate a new ordinance that effectively outlaws groups from feeding the homeless in public. On Sunday the city charged three people, including two ministers and a 90-year-old homeless advocate, and they could face up to 60 days in jail for their so-called crime. Arnold Abbott said, "I fully believe that I am my brother's keeper. Love they neighbor as thy self." 90-year-old Abbott prepares hundreds of meals each week for the homeless in the kitchen of the Sanctuary Church. But Abbott's work now has him in trouble with the law. He faces possible jail time and a $500 fine for feeding the homeless after he was charged Sunday with violating a new ordinance that virtually outlaws groups from sharing food with the hungry in the city.

How was this ordinance ever passed? I mean, I'm really struggling trying to think of a logical reason for preventing people from feeding hungry and homeless people.

some foods we humans consume may be poisonous to them, feeding should be done by the zoo personnel only

well you see, if they dont get food they die and then there's no homeless people any more.
60 days in jail and a fine for giving a homeless guy something to eat
What purpose does this law serve?
well you see, if they dont get food they die and then there's no homeless people any more.
Until there are some new homeless people.
welcome to ft. lauderdale, where they wage war on poor people, not poverty
wow this is honestly really fuck up
I feed homeless people every fortnight and I love it, probably the most fun I have is listening to their tales while sharing a simple meal of sausage on bread
I don't know how such a ridiculous law can pass

If they didn't want to be hungry they should have worked harder and got a job. Feeding them just continues the cycle of them depending on handouts. So by making it illegal to feed them, you're actually helping them
i live near by but flagdog says im a filthy canadalover
Well regardless the reason the law was put in place they've now got a political shitstorm on their hands.
I hope they're happy. How did they not see this coming?

You should probably learn a little bit more about the economy because this post is quite misinformed and naive.
Fuck good deeds, let's be evil.

Yeah, people live in misery and poverty because they want to, right? It's so enjoyable to live on the streets without a job or money to sustain your needs, they should just drop their act and find a job. Because finding a job is sooo easy nowadays, and a small wage and horrible slave-like work conditions are just part of the thing; good jobs are only for the rich elite that deserve them. Oh, and forget about anything good if you aren't a white cisgender man, you aren't getting crap.
After all, it's all their fault for not living up to constant elitism, harsh treatment, getting targeted by the police for being in a situation they don't want to be in and being incapable to change anything because of all these things; you just gotta deal with it and eat shit.
tldr: Making helping the poor illegal only stigmatises them, create prejudice and erasure; and it's basically saying "We don't give a crap about the poor, just let them rot in the streets"

saying nice things to the homeless will clearly encourage them to be lazy and hog our welfare life in prison
Expected an Onion article.

The American media has a nasty habit of demonizing the poor and homeless and trumpeting the rich. Problem is, most homeless and poor are not that way by choice, contrary to what the media puts out. Over here, you hear that the poor abuse things like food stamps and shit to cheat the government but in reality the food stamps are worth jack shit and you can at most get away with a case of beer after saving up a ton.
Why does the media do this? Well, the United States is a paradox, the worlds largest economy but insane levels of poverty for such a wealthy nation. The nation that has the most Billionaires and Millionaires, and the largest income inequality in the world. The American economy is like a giant vacuum, a huge amount of the money goes up to the rich and less and less goes down, resulting in a shrinking middle class and larger and larger poor population.
Those same rich people own the media outlets, I'm not kidding you. They are all part of a larger corporation headed by an insanely rich media mongul. So of course the media blasts the poor and assigns them the responsibility of their own condition and people fully believe them because, well, its the media.
You know what would be funny. If 100,000 people suddenly decides to go feed the homeless in that state causing a mass overcrowding of jail and humongous paperwork in the police department

it was a joke

In my City a Bakery was closed down because the Baker gave unsold loafs of bread away to homeless people at the end of the day when he'd throw them away otherwise. Apparently that's tax evasion.
Something like that anyway.
