• Good free anti-malware programs? (malware byes isn't working)

So I was following this tutorial: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-antimalware-doctor which I'd already gone through once before, but for some reason I'd uninstalled malwarebytes, so I tried downloading it again. Unfortunately when I install the program, I can't open the application at all. So now I'm looking for an alternate anti-malware program to kill "Antimalware Doctor" for good. Thanks!
Try opening it in safe mode.
Well like the malwarebytes website itself doesn't work. Google says it can't be found.
Well like the malwarebytes website itself doesn't work. Google says it can't be found.
Seems like the virus blocked out the website. I suggest editing your hosts file, or asking one of us to give you the file. Please be weary on some of these people.
should i download the installer file for the most recent version on a different computer and put it on this one via usb stick?
should i download the installer file for the most recent version on a different computer and put it on this one via usb stick?
I highly suggest this. However, before you transfer the files over from the usb stick, for the security of the device, turn it onto READ ONLY.
Download Spybot Search & Destroy.
Download Spybot Search & Destroy.
Site would be probably blocked too.
Well, I found a copy of spybot s&d on my computer, but just like Malwarebytes the program refuses to open up. Any suggestions as to how I can get an anti-malware program running? [editline]12:15PM[/editline] So pretty much the problem is opening the applications and running them, not necessarily downloading and installing them.
Like has already been said in this thread, safe mode scan.
Does SAS work, eventhough its spyware it has an alternative version
Does SAS work, eventhough its spyware it has an alternative version
Clear as mud, but it does reminds me of SuperAntiSpyware's feature. (OFF-TOPIC RANT: I haven't used SAS in a while, after it failed to detect a blatantly obvious adbot on my computer. I created it, with specific code that matched heuristics used by SAS, and I made this program spam my desktop background with ads about "enlargement devices." When I scanned with SAS, it detected nothing.) While I wouldn't recommend SAS, if the OP can download it and install it, it DOES have an alternate start feature that randomly names the executable and might allow you to scan and remove said malware.
I just booted up the computer in safe mode and ran malwarebytes. Thanks for the tips!
