• New HDD, fresh Win7 install, Wireless doesn't work on Win7, but works on Ubuntu CD? GROSS.

Here's the low down. Got an Acer Aspire 5745G from 2010 I believe. HDD crapped out so I got a new one and Installed Windows 7 off a CD. I went to the Acer website, downloaded the HW Vendor Detector and Installed pretty much all of the drivers I needed. I installed the Broadcam wireless driver (On the bottom of my laptop it has a sticker saying crap about how it has a broadcam wireless card, so it's not like i'm installing the wrong driver) Restarted and uninstalled multiple times, but for some reason it STILL doesn't detect, or even turn on, the wireless. Here is a picture of where i'm stuck: I have tried both Enable This Connection and Diagnose Connection, neither work. It just stays greyed out. And when I unplug the ethernet cable it just shows that monitor in the bottom right with an X through it. Can't even look up wireless networks. I have ALSO made sure the wireless in on by hitting my hotkey on my laptop. The wireless icon shows up in the middle of my screen for a second, and the wireless light turns on at the front of my laptop. I have ALSO went into my Device manager and right clicked on the yellow ! and windows automatically installed the right broadcam driver for my wireless, yet still I get to the same point as above. Pretty neat (and annoying) fact: I have an Ubuntu 12.04 CD and when I run my laptop off that cd, it can see the wireless just fine. I have done this many times, but I don't want to switch back between programming on Win7 and using the internet on Ubuntu. But here's the weird part: The Ubuntu CD can see the wireless networks BEFORE IT EVEN INSTALLS THEIR BROADCAM SDA driver. I am stumped. Maybe the Ubuntu driver is screwing up my driver in windows I thought, but that cannot be possible because it is running off the CD, right? Although I can still access my HDD when I am running Ubuntu off the CD. tl;dr: New HDD, Ubuntu CD can see wireless networks, fresh Win7 install cannot.
Did you try to roll-back the driver/ downgrade it? Did you install windows updates? Is MAC filtering enabled? Run
ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew
I would configure teh gateway just to check that everything is alright. I hardly doubt that Ubuntu has anything to do w/it. Check documentation to see if any defective h/ware is listed on the manufacturers website. That's all that came to my mind.
I don't have an option to roll back the driver in the device manager because this is a fresh install, I guess? I'll try installing a previous version. I have been installing windows updates and it is (to the best of my knowledge) up to date. One thing though, I have not yet entered the CD key because the only CD key I have is on a sticker on the bottom of my laptop, faded. So I am also working on deciphering that as well. The only reason why I mentioned Ubuntu is because that means that it is a problem with my windows install and/or is a software problem and is not a hardware problem, because it works on Ubuntu. Thanks for the help i'll try your suggestions.
