A high-speed TGV train has derailed near the French city of Strasbourg, killing five people and injuring seven, local media report. They say the crash happened during a test run in the town of Eckwersheim in the east of the country. Reports say technicians were on board the train. The injured have been taken to hospital by helicopters. The AFP news agency is quoting sources as saying the derailment happened due to "excessive speed".
Source 1 & 2 So tragic, France just can't catch a break
That picture is surreal
Holy shit, imagine if it was full:

lol france just cant get a break right now
Thank God it was nearly completely empty. Train derailment is the one thing I'd never want to get caught in, mostly because it's one of those disasters where people in charge can only hope that a huge hunk of metal flying off its course won't tear into more people. Biggest gamble when it comes to moving vehicles.
Thankfully it was just a test run, so only a handful of people were on it Still this shouldn't have happened with all their experience in tgvs
Yes, 150+ dead in the span of just a couple days. yes totally lol
Don't be so stuck up, it's nothing you can't laugh at.
how the hell did this even happen? TVM430 is in place to prevent such derailments (aka overspeed, signal changes, points/switches changes or faults, track obstructions etc). Luckily this was on the recently finished (but unopened) section of the Paris-Strasbourg LGV (ligne lignes à grande vitesse) on a testing run to check if the track was up to standards set by SNCF. Maybe there was a fault in the TVM430 system or wasn't even enabled...
A high-speed TGV train
Yeah, it's probably picky but a high-speed high-speed train train?
Yeah, it's probably picky but a high-speed high-speed train train?
a extremely high speed multitrack drifting train
shit, i used to take this line almost every week once surreal seeing this
Well, it fucking sucks but better to have happened during a test than during an actual normal run with it chock full of people, now it will hopefully not happen in the future.
Yeah, it's probably picky but a high-speed high-speed train train?
It's not nitpicky if you don't speak French or have any familiarity with French railways.
Yeah, it's probably picky but a high-speed high-speed train train?
Actually it would be like "a high speed very high speed train"
Thankfully it was on a test run. People still died and got hurt, but it could of been a lot worse
Huh, I was expecting this to be related to the recent terror attacks.
a extremely high speed multitrack drifting train
Some noob must have been on command of the train for it to derail then.
Several children were on board when a high-speed train derailed during a test run in France, killing 11 people, the rail company SNCF has said.

Investigators are trying to determine who the children are and why they were on board when access was meant to be restricted to technicians.
Someone's getting fired.
a extremely high speed multitrack drifting train
It's more that TGV is in itself an acronym for train. Train a Grande Vitesse if I remember right.
Someone's getting fired.
And arrested. If they're not dead.
