Here's a work in progress I have, I'd say about 80% complete, of a friend in oil painting. I've only started drawing people with oils for a couple of weeks now. This assignment is due this morning and of course I need to get some sleep, been working on it for a while.
I'll be handing it in tomorrow and getting a critique for it from my proff.
I'll also be tweaking it, fixing errors, and finishing up its render tomorrow after class.
So I'd like some comments as to what you feel would improve this piece.

Maybe it's just me, but the indentation on the right side of the mouth (from my perspective) seems a little asymmetrical.
Then again, that may just be her face. :v:
Who exactly did you paint? Looks good but the eyes are a bit weird. A frame of reference would be nice, or you could introduce me to them.

She was doing some kind of asymmetrical smirk in the reference, I'll have the reference up after I'm done with the painting. For now I'm just showing this off as an almost complete work in progress.

Yeah noticed the eyes are a bit crossed in my painting, I'll level them out later. Also, she's not here in San Fran man, she's living in Poland right now. She's an old friend of mine from back in Dubai. And yeah, I'll have the reference up soon.
Sweet. Bring her here for me baby.
It's pretty cool, but she looks like a tiger or something.

Most of the people aren't perfectly symmetrical.
Nice work so far.
I love this.
The colours are, for me, a bit too saturated, and the left eye seems as though it would have slightly different shading.
The shadows on the face, however, are beautiful; that Rembrandt-triangle on the cheek is stunning. I'm also in love with the quick, expressive brush strokes. Was this wet in wet?
Cool, but kinda creepy looking.
I think something that throws off the color balance is the fact that her nose is a shade darker than the rest of her face. This would be more appropriate for the bottom of her nose, but the top of it, closer toward the eyebrows, would be about the same color. If the nose were more highlighted, you could take some flushes of pinks and reds to the cheek, and make it seem more dimensional. Also, I love the way you've got thick, loose brushstrokes. Even with those, however, I would still make it more defined as to where her hair ends and the background begins on the top. Very nice. :)
I love the high contrast and the thick brushstrokes. I don't see that often enough, and I like it.

Applied most of what you said, and the others in this thread, thanks.
Finally finished the piece, got critique off quite a few people, finally showed it to her, she liked it :)..
Will definitely still be tweaking this a bit in time, my holidays just started so I've got the time.
Updated OP with the newest version of the painting.
and here's a bonus figure paint of a live model I did:
Took over 12 hours to get to this done to this point.
Wish I could upload a better quality image :saddowns:
Boobies!
Yay! :D Woo, you completely got what I was saying. I'm glad I was able to help.
Oils take triple the time than what you think they will. Always.
