41 students and an English teacher have been killed in an Islamic extremist attack on a boarding school in northeast Nigeria. Some students were burned alive, according to survivors being treated for burn and gunshot wounds.
"We received 42 dead bodies of students and other staff of Government Secondary School [in] Mamudo last night. Some of them had gunshot wounds while many of them had burns and ruptured tissues," Haliru Aliyu of the Potiskum General Hospital told AFP.
Militants arrived on the scene with vessels carrying large quantities of fuel, which they used to torch the building. Those who tried to flee the burning wreckage were shot, the survivors said.
The attack on Government Secondary School in Mamudo town in the northeastern Yobe state is the latest in a series of militant attacks targeting children.
Chaotic scenes were visible at the nearby hospital which was treating victims of the attack as distressed screaming parents attempted to identify their own children through charred bodies and victims of shootings, according to AP.

"From accounts of teachers and other students who escaped the attack, the gunmen gathered their victims in a hostel and threw explosives and opened fire, leading to the death of 42," Aliyu said.
This is just fucked up.

Because they survived? Idk
BTW I should point that this attack was perpetrated by the Boko Haram (which can be roughly translated as "western education is a sin"), a jihadist group against western education and man made laws because they believe they are the biggest sin. Yet they kill innocent people..
The Islamic rebels are getting what they wanted. Parents are already swearing to never let their children attend school.
With the military thats supposed to be fighting the rebels also looting and killing civilians I see little hope for the region.

Education; the only hope for regions such as this is also the one being actively hunted down by religious extremists.

Its a tragedy that extremists have twisted a religion that kept learning alive in the dark ages into something so backwards.

Yeah, honestly today there seems to be a massive divide between what religions actually say and promote, and what the 'extremists' think is a good idea. Frankly I don't think I can even call them religious, more like misinformed by the 'Respected Islamist Scholars" of today.
RIP

Happier times probably.

I agree, Islam extremism is hardly a religion. Brainwashed lunatics is what they are. I mean, the Quran strongly advocates doing good deeds to people in need - so what kind of lunatic gets the idea to set a school on fire?
And yet this will go almost unheard of here in America.
I hate my country.

I hate my country because:
a) they interfere with other countries
b) they don't interfere with other countries.

They'd probably wonder what state Nigeria is in and shrug it off as their monthly school shooting.

Thats all of the developed world. Nobody pays attention to African problems.
I've been to this school on a mission trip once. Spent more time in the South though.

Nevermind it wasn't this school.
