Due to R6 siege, Ubisoft will never sell dlc that takes away from full experience again
Ubisoft says that it will no-longer sell DLC that gamers will need to fully enjoy their game.
VP of live operations Anne Blondel-Jouin told GamesIndustry.biz that the publisher now looks to support its games for between five and ten years, and in order to keep players engaged, the firm must be very careful when it comes to monetisation.
Ubisoft has enjoyed a lot of success with Rainbow Six: Siege, a shooter where the extra maps are being made available for free - gamers only need to pay if they want to customise their characters, or buy new ones.
"Monetisation is something we have to be very careful about, and my team is in charge of that and making sure we find a right balance," Blondel-Jouin says.
"The key is if it's not adding something on-top of the actual experience of the game, then it is no good. Because you'll be asking for more money for the wrong reasons. Also, if the content is compulsory for the gamers, it's no good as well. It is a way to deliver more fun to gamers, but they have a choice to go for that extra fun or not. If I take an analogy of an amusement park, you can go through all the rides, but then you can also go to the shop to buy some food or merchandise or whatever... regardless of whether you spend in the shop, you're still part of the whole experience. Nobody is making you buy if you don't want to, but it is another way to have a different entertainment experience. If you're with your kids, and there's a toy you want to get, we will make sure it is an extra experience. It won't be the case if you don't buy it then you can't do anything else.
"It wouldn't work if it was about making it compulsory for gamers. No more DLC that you have to buy if you want to have the full experience. You have the game, and if you want to expand it - depending on how you want to experience the game - you're free to buy it, or not."
I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm with Sgt, I wouldn't believe this shit without them proving it
Too late you fuckos, shouldn't have released that WD2 Season Pass trailer if you really meant this.
While the maps were free, I would hardly consider the operators completely free, more like.. "free". A regular operator costs at most 2000 credits, while the dlc ones cost 25000. Have fun grinding that.
Can radio towers join them?
Rainbow Six Siege is by far the best thing to come out of Ubisoft in a while
It's actually bizarre going onto their subreddit and seeing people complimenting their community manager and praising the devs for changes. I still remember people flaming the shit out of JD2020, the old community manager for Treyarch in the days of WaW and BO1, and I always assumed that community managers were supposed to just be a punching bag for the community's angst, rather than actually getting along with them. Nice to see such positivity surrounding such a fun game

I'm actually really glad to hear this, cause unfortunately, as with most FPS games it seems, the people you meet in-game just tends to be horrendously rude in my experiences.
Been playing the game since launch and I can't remember when I last met somebody nice in that game.
Just yesterday I was literally called a retard because I had "already" bought one of the new elite sets (with left-over currency that I had saved up).
It's good to know what cold_shadow3 thinks about me (That was his actual name).

They kinda already did with R6 Siege.
They're supposed to be dropping the price of Season 1 DLC operators come December. How much they'll cost I can't recall but if that's the case then it's not too bad.
i bought the R6 siege season pass, i will gladly support games and developers that dont split the playerbase apart with ridiculously priced DLC
They'll do microtransactions instead.

But R6 Siege has a season pass. What does it actually have in it? All I've got is the starter pack

10% off stuff in the store, whether its in-game credits or real money for cosmetic stuff
when a new operator comes out, you get it free and have a week to play around with till everyone else gets it for free (but they gotta pay with the fake non-money currency to get it. you cant buy operators with real money.)
exclusive cosmetic goodies
600 Paid-For Currency for cosmetic shit (remember, you get 10% off in the store so its like gettin a bit more)
season 1 just ended content-adding wise, so i expect them to make a new updated season pass soon possibly maybe??

For free but you have to pay 25,000 in game credits per operator.
There's been 8 new DLC ops. 25,000 each for a new player will be a lot, but still doable.

Season pass simply lets you get access to all new operators as soon as they come out and some other small extras that don't really make much of a difference. Otherwise you have to either grind to unlock the post-launch operators or you can spend like $5 per operator if you just want specific ones.

i mean if you enjoy playing the game alot the 25k thing isnt a problem
new challenges each day with a 150/200 currency reward (even pre-set uPlay challenges each day for even more challenges) combined with playing normally can get you like 5k a day
even more if you decided to buy a booster for whatever reason

You can buy operators with real money, they cost 600 credits each which is 5 bucks/euros.

Nope, I have the full game and I bought Caveira like that when that pack came out.

To be fair that came out before they made this announcement about how they're planning to change their DLC practices.
That moment when no economist worked for your company...
Edit: i mean, before they didnt have it.

They could scrap it and hand out refunds well before the PC version releases, but I doubt they will. Demanding refunds is such an alien concept for console people.

ya seriously, this.
Siege is a great game, the operators are not balanced very well at all though, some of the DLC operators which you either have to buy or grind for are more powerful compared to the stock characters you unlock for cheap.

The only DLC operator that's blatantly unbalanced is Blackbeard. The others are fine.

didnt he get nerfed into oblivion twice in a row
when are we gonna get tachanka buffs, praise be to he
Been a fan of R6 siege since It came out, the free dlc has kept me in the game if they do this for all their all future games Ubisoft will be more well received.

It's been nerfed to the point where the shield is practically useless

I still regret buying the starter edition, not because the game is bad but because you have to grind soo much ingame money just to get some better ops. Also I bought it on uplay instead of steam which kinda sucks, oh well.

I'll return to playing this game when chunks gets a buff
