If you say you're so good at fixing things then go for it.......
You just need a TRRRS 3.5mm replacement jack. You could always send them to someone and get them recabled entirely, people at Head-Fi do it for relatively cheap.

Ive fix these things for myself and friends all the time.
Just cut the wire (hard I know) and strip the plastic of the end.
You should end up with 2 silver/gold wires 1 green and 1 red wire (Can also be blue)
Some headsets use diferrent colors or all 1 color in which case you need to find which wire goes where before soldering it together.
The silver ones are the - and the red/green ones are the + for left and right.
I keep forgetting which is which so i usually just clamp the wires to an audio source and play with the balance to see whats left and right.
I usually buy new jackplugs without a cable attached but you can also just cut the cable (leave about 5cm) of an old headset. This can reduce quality due to the fact that the jackplug can be made from cheaper materials then your headphones.
First step is to strip all wires and put some flux on them.
Then put a very very small shrinkwrap* on each wire and shove it up until it ist on the place you are sldering annymore.
Also put a larger shrinkwrap* around the whole wire (to close it off later)
Proceed to solder the correct wires to the correct plases on your jackplug (or to the wires of the sacrificed jackplug cable) and then test it.
If it sounds good and the balance is ok, move the srinkwraps over the piece you soldered and heat them up, repeat this with the bigger shrinkwrap on the whole cable and you are done.
shrinkwrap* Dont know the english word but it is a tube that shrinks when you heat it up.
Heat shrink tubing
Assume yellow is actually white emerald is black and blue is red. I think the only way to be sure is to connect them to a source and see if it's right.

Yes I rule I can't believe that I got that right from light/dark color method.
Headphone cables are pretty easy to fix, now USB cables are a pain in the ass!
