Just got home a GeForce 9500GT from a friend. He bought a new one, and thought that I should have this.
Well, I don't really know anything about this stuff. So I wonder, is GeForce 9500GT better than my previous ATI Radeon HD 3580 card?
I don't know much about Radeon, but just get on a rather high graphics game and do some test runs on both cards.
I prefer ATI cards myself. All of my NVIDIA cards failed on me.
I'm using an ATI 6850 at the moment.
I'm not pointing fingers, but on my Nvidia card, I had perfect AA on TF2.
But when I switched to my Radeon, I couldn't get it right no matter what settings I had.
The 9500GT is one or two generations ahead if I'm not mistaken, ask it on Hardware & Software.
well a 9500 GT will probably get you near double if not triple your framerate in games over a 3580.
ATI hardly fails, but it has a lot of bug issues.
nVidia cards overheat a little and are slightly less reliable than an ATI, but pack power. I'm running an nVidia GTX470 right now and it's wonderful. So, I'd go with the 9500GT

that is very wrong.

It's not. My 6600GT almost got fried. My 8800GTX got fried. My 4870 hasn't. My 6950 hasn't.

two cards from each company WOW YOU MUST BE AN EXPERT!
The GTX 480, 8800GT, and all their dual-GPU cards are prone to overheating. But thats it. ATI's dual-GPU solutions are just as hot as nVidias. I have a 9500 GT, three 9400 GT's, four GT 210's, a 9800GX2, and a GTX 460 and none of them are in any heat-related danger.
i hope you love playing any games with opengl... owait ati doesnt support that for shit
9500 would be a lot better
This thread is going to be an absolute flame war, I guarantee it. Anyways, I prefer nVidia. I've bought some ATi cards, but the configuration menu kind of confuses me. The card itself performed fairly, but it was only good for business class (nothing to do with the company mind you, I was only shopping for a cheap, well performing card). I currently have an nVidia Geforce GT 240. I love this card. It may not be the best, but it manages to dish out everything I throw at it. If the card were a teddy bear, I'd hug its little green fur all day long. Plus, I like the logo.
I still continue to go with nVidia because of PhysX though, but I guess it's all just a matter of personal preference.
ati is fine if you buy the newest versions, but they really dont have decent support for older cards or drop support before their drivers are stable enough
I just realized what happens when fast threads plays H&S.
OP, ask this in the "Quick questions that doesn't deserve a thread.. thread" in the H&S, you'll get much more qualified advice. And in my opinion, you should really post full specs before asking a question such as this.
The ammount of uneducated and randomly spouted opinions in this thread is staggering.
Long live fast threads!

Also:
9500GT > 3580.
From what I remember, 3850.

Been a while since I last checked them older GPUs.

Its a 3580 not a 3850.
Bad reading on my behalf, apologies.
OP, are you sure it's not a 3850? I wasn't aware that 3580s even existed. If it's a 3850, then it beats 9500GT easily, if not, it's probably the other way around.
Also holy fuck you morons, he asked you which card performs better, instead we have a thread in which half the post are people saying which company they prefer.
9500 > 3580 (if it exists)
9500 < 3850

this happens to every thread dealing with ATI vs Nvidia or ATI vs Intel.
OT:
Look for some benchmarks, that'll help. there's also no such thing as a 3580. It's probably a 3850, use that.

Actually this almost never happens annymore in H&S section, only on the rest of the forums.
And you are right, there is no such thing as the 3580, I derrived the performance from looking at the 3650 (which is still worse then the 9500gt)
Annyways if he has the 3850 then a 9500 is a downgrade.
For your dollar, an ati card will pack more power than a nvidia card. However, I find that nvidia cards come with many more features (CUDA, Physx) and have much better drivers, especially on linux.
