Patch notes that contain "Vwooop" "I like hugs" and "This is fixed, or maybe it's actually worse we don't know" Doesn't really bode well
So, how are they making the Enderman creepy? I see filler text, the change log that I could have seen on their website and an explanation about how armor is being changed, but not how the Enderman is being made creepy. Why have that as part of the thread title and not actually have any information on it? [sp]I'm not stupid and am well aware of the nature of "clickbait" article titles, though again they DID explain how armor is being changed[/sp]
Patch notes that contain "Vwooop" "I like hugs" and "This is fixed, or maybe it's actually worse we don't know" Doesn't really bode well
I like a friendly dev as much as the next guy but these notes don't actually tell me what changed.
Patch notes that contain "Vwooop" "I like hugs" and "This is fixed, or maybe it's actually worse we don't know" Doesn't really bode well
They're trying to make it seem like they're not a multi-billion dollar company that's spent the last year on a few balance changes.

This game is marketed towards a younger age group. If I were a 12 year old interested in computer games enough to look at the changelog, some of these lighthearted responses would be entertaining, and may even push me to learn more about a subject like programming because of it.

As you say, some of the responses would be entertaining, but not when it's the entire changelog.
They're trying to make it seem like they're not a multi-billion dollar company that's spent the last year on a few balance changes.
To be fair, they've been working pretty hard on the non-Java versions. They're almost at feature parity. Microsoft's pushing the console and mobile stuff pretty hard.
To be fair, they've been working pretty hard on the non-Java versions. They're almost at feature parity. Microsoft's pushing the console and mobile stuff pretty hard.
Different dev teams. There's still a dedicated PC one.
Different dev teams. There's still a dedicated PC one.
Oh. Then what the hell have they been doing for a year?
Patch notes that contain "Vwooop" "I like hugs" and "This is fixed, or maybe it's actually worse we don't know" Doesn't really bode well
Yeah. Though they probably know that they're dealing with young kids mainly, and are catering to them.
Oh. Then what the hell have they been doing for a year?
Probably cleaning up the code so it's not such a nightmare.
I think the issue is probably that you get to a certain point in a products life where by updating it you're causing more problems than you solve. I wouldn't expect anything significant for this version.

If a modder can do it without too much trouble, why can't the developers of the game?
Remember the good old days of 1.7.3
Here's a real changelog for everyone who is interested; http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/15w36a And on "made the enderman scary again" thing, they just fixed a few things like teleporting behaviour and staring noise not working optimal. Pretty clickbait and useless article.
I was hoping they would have changed their appearance to the earlier versions of the Endermen. The gray/white eyes were a lot creepier than purple tbh
Remember the good old days of 1.7.3
I popped in at 1.3 beta. 1.5 beta was for me the perfect version, not overly complicated with all the content they've kinda been slathering on, but there felt enough to do to warrant endless play. I know I spent days on end quarrying 8x8 chambers below my fort straight down to the bedrock, and taking all that cobblestone and expanding my castle walls. Game ran smooth on my computer. I think the adventure update gave me a huge performance hit. It's gotten better since but I don't play like I used to.
I may be wrong, but don't plenty of mods for the game add in a bunch of content without hassle? If a modder can do it without too much trouble, why can't the developers of the game?
Because modders don't have to deal with bugs or balance in the same way developers do. It's easy to completely change the dynamic of the game with new content if you're not the one making it.
Remember the good old days of 1.7.3
I'm still waiting for my Capture the Flag game mode Notch promised when I bought the game. :quotes:

Did they ever add mod API?
Did they ever add mod API?
They've been fixing up a bunch of stuff behind-the-scenes that they're going to need to do for the API. And Notch was a hobbyist programmer who didn't really think too far ahead and didn't expect the massive surge of popularity that Minecraft got, so there's a shitton of stuff they need to fix.
I like a friendly dev as much as the next guy but these notes don't actually tell me what changed.
Yeah. I like companies joking around as much as the next guy but patch notes are probably the one place where you want to be as straight-to-the-point as possible.
Yeah. I like companies joking around as much as the next guy but patch notes are probably the one place where you want to be as straight-to-the-point as possible.
You can even have little jokes in there as well though. Just don't put in a bunch of vague, bizarre nonsequitors that just confuse people.
The game is coded so poorly, it's taken them over three years to clean it up enough for an API.
I've always been supportive of the idea that the game should be re-created from the ground up, but considering the fact that it takes fucking ages for Mojang to implement or fix anything worthwhile, it would probably end up worse than before.
The "Notch's awful code" argument should be put to bed already, they've had a whole team tinkering on it for years now. They've had more time than Notch used for the initial implementation. To me it seems they barely prioritize mods, but rather focus on adding more content and doing platform support (some of the content is quite nice, but christ make a mod API already that doesn't break every update).
I think the issue is probably that you get to a certain point in a products life where by updating it you're causing more problems than you solve. I wouldn't expect anything significant for this version.
They're doing extremely controversial balance changes and one of the main reasons they're so controversial is because of the bloated changelogs showing absolutely nothing of what they change. I expect very few people to actually play on this version.
