Alright, so I have been chatting to some peeps in TinyChat and I was seriously considering growing.
But, not in my house and I can't be caught doing it.
I have a few places, my back garden, a piece of land, the local field about 50FT away from my house.
Some questions first.
Would it be possible to grow it for a cost ~£30?
Like, seed, pot, soil, field. Water it everyday obviously.
That'd probably cost less than £30.
I'd need it to be a relatively small plant, like, smallest possible which would grow quality buds.
Discreet.
How much light would it need to grow outside, England isn't too sunny. :v:
If it rained, would it matter?
If you could help me out with any of this, it'd be appreciated.
I don't even know if I'm doing it yet.
One question. Is there a fence around your back garden that could prevent people from seeing in? If so, I guess, build a small greenhouse in your back garden and grow there.
I'm not sure if you could grow it for 30 quid, possibly if you find a website that sells quality seeds for cheaper than that.
I'm also not sure how much the nutrients needed for the plant would cost. I'm guessing your main problem would be the light required though. With UK's shitty weather and the fact that the herb needs like 16-18 hours of light daily, you might be in trouble.
For the strain, I'm not sure what you need... Sativa, indica or a hybrid. Check out this site ( http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseedbank.com/seedshop/all-marijuana-seeds-seedsbank.html ) and look for a strain that's in your budget, doesn't require that much light/can grow outdoors and doesn't grow bigger than 60-80cm.
If you do decide to grow in a greenhouse, check this link: http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseedbank.com/seedshop/greenhouse-seeds.html
Read up on growing guides too for particular strains too.
Oh, btw, don't build a glass greenhouse, build one using that cellophane stuff. It lets the light in but the material is "fuzzy" itself so no one will be able to make out what's growing inside.
Here's what I have in mind:

check out growery.org
its like shroomery, but for growing budz.
High right now, saw the thread title and thought OP wanted tips on how to get taller. So I immediately opened the thread in the hope that someone would have answers to my problem with being vertically challenged.

Free your body horizontally if you wish to grow vertically.
Yeah, I know English weather is shit. If it was possible I'd grow in my attic but it'd be suspicious going up every day.
So you don't want your parents or who ever you live with to find out? If you were to grow in your attic, there is no way you could grow it for less than 30 quid. I mean, set up the lighting, pots, soil, nutrients/plant food and of course the seeds themselves. Not to mention, your electricity bill would probably be noticeably higher seeing as you'd have the lights going like 18 hours a day. The most expensive thing would probably be the material needed to "insulate" the place in order to prevent heat escaping. A.) you don't want police choppers with infra red cameras to see your little grow house and B.) you don't want your house to be the only one in the neighborhood to have no snow on the roof (if it snows). Plus, you might need some kind of ventilation.
Seriously, your best bet is to grow in a greenhouse as I suggested above. Just build a really small one. Wouldn't cost much.
I wouldn't want to grow a greenhouse purely because it'd be noticeable on a field.

A Marijuana plant would be pretty noticeable as well imo
Idk tbh, nettles are common here and the look hella like weed plants.
Idk tbh, nettles are common here and the look hella like weed plants.
They look very alike untill they grow tall,
So i guess you could hide them in very high nettles (but they take up a lot of nutrients to grow)
What do you mean by taking up a lot of nutrients?
That's why you build it in your back garden, grow the herb in the greenhouse and also grow some tomatoes and other vegetables, seeing as they would take the attention away from the bud.
Basically, spread some soil in the greenhouse, plant the tomatoes there, once they grow a little, plant the weed in a pot and put the pot in the middle of the tomatoes. No one would see. Also, I doubt it would seem THAT weird to neighbors that you grow your own vegetables. My mom does that in our back garden and with all the friends coming over no one ever questioned it or found it odd. Imho, greenhouse is the way to go in your case.
By "taking up a lot of nutrients" he probably means that the herb needs a lot of nutrients and vitamins from the soil, and if there are nettles growing around it, the nettles would take away a lot of them. Unless of course you grow the weed in a pot and just put it into nettles to disguise it.
What do you mean by taking up a lot of nutrients?
I grow a lot of stuff like onions, peas, strawberries, potato and tomatoes, you cannot plant them at the same place because they do not grow as big or produce a lot of stuff,
The ground where nettles grow is really good so say if you chopped it down and turned the dirt around you would get a good nice plot of land,
(If i recall correctly nettles prove a high natrium level)(don't quote me on that)
No because then my parents would be asking why I'm growing veg.. :v:
you don't water every day.
you put your index finger in the soil about an inch and a half down and if it's dry, you water. If it still feels moist, you don't.
and you have to get a ph level tester.
and the stuff to adjust the ph levels.
oh and well you probably aren't gonna be able to grow this time of year anyway.
the spectrum of the sun would change at the wrong time, temperatures are gonna be too low, etc.
idk you can try it though i guess

He doesn't need a pH-tester.

And people already grow outside in the UK, there are strains made specially for the northern climates.

@Erasus: Well £30 will get you the seeds as far as I can tell. You can mix your own soil, especially if you have your own compost. Otherwise, you may need vermiculite and fertilizers (I'm not sure if compost will need fertilizers, but I really think it should be nutrient-rich enough to sustain at least a single plant). That's the very basic, put-plant-in-the-ground-and-hope-for-the-best accessories. It would probably be wise to have a tent as well. A small plant would be an indica. Lowryder is, as the name indicates, a very small plant. Rain doesn't matter, unless it actually drowns the plant.

I should say I don't grow myself, but I've read quite a lot about it.
There are sativa strains that don't grow past 60-80cm too though. However, as you stated above, it's probably too late in the year now. You should've planted at the beginning of July and harvested in September.
too late to grow outdoors now, april until early july are the limits for planting out. £30 should get you a few seeds (around 5 i'd say). I don't grow but have known lots of people to recommend attitude seed bank. For your requirements autoflowers sound like the best option, you might get an ounce of a plant if it grows well (but auto bud isn't as good as proper plant bud). You may also need to invest in a 125W florescent lamp for a nursery box, unless you are willing to risk having plants on your windowsill. In autumn this year it is also very profitable to do a bit of preparation to your plot beforehand such as digging in manure. Also you'll need some cages to protect against rabbits. Watering daily isn't necessary once they're past the seeding stage- perhaps a few times per week in a drought, but remember overwatering is far more damaging than underwatering. I can recommend http://uk420.com 's guerilla growing forum a good place to start.
You could grow around this time of year, but it won't be ready until october/november and the frost may kill it. I had 2 plants that i grew outside from around june and they grew to like 7ft before they started flowering. And even then i harvested the biggest one late September and the other one grew so slowly that the frost turned all the buds black like a day before i was gonna harvest. It's alright for free weed, but expect to have to smoke like a gram in each spliff to get high.
also as the guy said above, it's cool to leave them in your window sill. I had like 12 on my window sill but to the average person they're not gonna know what it is unless its fully grown.
You're missing the point that OP also doesn't want his parents finding out, which is a problem when growing on a window sill.
If i say it like this,
You cannot grow without your parents finding out it's a very long time it has to grow and you have to explain why you are draging water, and if you aren't really out in the garden that often then suddenly you do i would wonder what you are doing
Growing is easy. It's just sexing them is my problem.

Not to mention it will probably start to stink if grown inside.
If you're living with your parents, your best bet (even though its a stupid idea altogether until you're on your own) would be to guerrilla grow somewhere near your place.
